"Floating" / extendable flat-screen stand

I have a 24" widescreen LCD and I would like to be able to have it floating in front of me, by way of an extendable arm. I do not want to mount anything to my walls, so I would prefer that it was self supporting.

I imagine it would look somewhat like those extendable lamps, like that Pixar lamp. I have all wireless peripherals, so I don’t really want an enclosed micro-office, those things that look like the old sit-down Star Wars game. I would like to be able to just sit down in a comfortable living room chair and swing/swivel the screen down to my line of sight.

Does such a thing like this exist or am I going to have to build one (and hope it doesn’t topple)?

You don’t mention it, but are you not interested in the kind that clamps to the table?

It’s gotta clamp someplace. Here’s some.

Keep in mind that your monitor needs to be VESA Compliant (which basically means it has screw holes in the right places), but I suspect they all are at this point.

Those look good… I’ll just need to buy or build a stand with a heavy base on which to mount it. Thanks!

An LCD monitor is a lot heavier than a light bulb; you’ll need a pretty hefty base if you don’t want to clamp it to the desk.

I was wondering about that. What is the monitor, mouse and keyboard now sitting on? Why not clamp the monitor stand to whatever desk or table you’re now using?
