So, we’re getting ready to head out to Johnstown, PA for the Flood City Music Festival, one of our yearly can’t-miss events. It’s about a 90 minute drive for us, so we have a room and will spend the weekend. Added bonus: I timed my hair perfectly so I can visit my barber while in town, avoiding a special trip!
Pittsburgh legend Joe Grushecky is performing this year. I grew up watching Joe’s first band, The Iron City Houserockers play at The Decade in Oakland. He’s always fun.
My two other must-sees are G. Love & Special Sauce and JJ Grey & Mofro, but there are usually bands I never heard of that become new favorites.
Last year I got to see Boz Scaggs for the first time. We were standing by the stage and his crew was monitoring weather radar on a laptop. A storm was coming. They timed things out so Boz could start Rainy Night In Georgia just as the rain began. It was great; we were soaked to the bone by the time we walked the 8 blocks to the hotel.
Anyone going? I’ll buy you a beer.
