Flora's dead

connection, that is.

Flora McFlimsey is no longer able to access the Straight Dope site (or the Chicago Reader site). Is there something funny going on the Midwest today? Is Uke sabotaging the connection so we can’t read the minutes of the Chicago meeting?

Another handsome young man at her place of work is unable to access the sites as well. She doesn’t want to have to contact the carnies, I mean tech support just yet. Anyone have any advice?

I would hate to have to plan Flora’s funeral - this month has been horrible enough.

Holy Crap ! That subject line scared the shit out of me…

SaxFace, that just wasn’t right!

You scared the livin’ daylights outta me, too!

Sorry, sorry. But if you think that was bad, you should’ve heard Flora’s suggestions!!

If she can’t access the site, and we all can, I’d have to WAG that her Itiots blocked access to that IP address.

Does she get an “access denied” message? Or does it just time out? Or what?

Manny, she can access other sites on the internet but hasn’t had access to SD since Thursday, so I’m thinking your WAG is correct.

I’ll ask her what sort of error messages she’s getting. Thanks for your help.

Woohoo the witch is dead.

Oh wait. I missed that connection part. Uhoh.
Flora is a very nice person.

On another note. I would be kind of surprised if they blocked this site and this site alone. Then again, the depths of IT’s desire to block out good things might have grown since I left the field.

Just an idea to try to help Flora find out what the problem is.
Some times the image in the opening page will screw with a person’s browser.
You could send her a link to a page inside the board and see if that works, skips over the image.

Perhaps, the page is loading, but her attention is being taken making googoo eyes at the handsome young man?

Good one, Pat. Have you been reading our e-mails?

Your suggestion is good, too. I’ll have her give it a shot.

Thanks!

Woo-hoo! I have arisen from the grave!

I don’t know what’s up with my Netscape. I was out sick as a pup on Thursday and Friday (lost 4 pounds, thanks!), and I come back to this . . . So if you don’t hear from me in awhile:

a) I have huge amounts of work piled up
b) My Netscape is playing Ducks and Drakes
c) I’ll be off on a glamorous L.A. sojourn the week of Nov. 28.

The rumors of Flora’s death has been greatly exaggerated…

Yer pal,
Satan

Wow.
The day I get back from my Northern California Expedition. Flora will be arriving in Los Angeles.
I am going down to Hollywood, autograph book in hand, hoping for Flora’s signature.
Will you be hanging around Schwab’s, hoping to be discovered?

I’ve already BEEN discovered, darling.

Already have plans for dinner at the H’wood Roosevelt with Anita Page (silent movie star, now 89) and Margaret O’Brien. When I dine with stars, they’re REAL stars.

      • The last two or three days I couldn’t get through to Straightdope either. (I had no problems getting to anywhere else, it seems) I am also in the midwest. - MC

Woah. An actress that can still tell Buster Keaton stories. That is beyond cool. She worked before and after the Hayes Codes. (Well, I don’t know about after, but before at least) Quite a dinner that will be. Anita Page, I am impressed.
I guess her neighbhors are saying the same thing. “You are dining with Flora McFlimsey? My my. Lucky soul”
You don’t have worries, Flora. There is no smoking in bars and restaraunts in CA.

Seriously, though. Is your star dining experience a work thing, or are you friends with them? Well, I suppose it could be both, as well.

pat

Friend thing. I interviewed both of them a few years back, and Anita and I became pals; Margaret O’Brien is tagging along.

Anita has great stories about Clark Gable, John Gilbert, Billy Haines, Buster Keaton, Ramon Novarro, Lon Chaney–she costarred with all of them and remembers it like it was yesterday. She’s also a real sweetie–which means, sadly, she won’t gossip or back-stab! Hope Maggie makes up for it.
