A couple of biggies in there. The most contentious I think is #4 (the right to abortions). I don’t think it will pass but I hope it does.

I don’t care that much about #1 (School Boards being partisan) but I’m voting no because I’m sick to death of partisanship trumping good sense.

I’m against #2 (the right to hunt) because it seems like the opening move in an attempt at massive deregulation of hunting which could be catastrophic on our wildlife.

#3 legalizes recreational pot. I think it will pass because it’s just not that big a deal anymore.

#5 claims to be about giving homeowners more exemption on taxes. But it’s also being described as a shell game to let the wealthy get more while hurting local govts ability to gather taxes.

#6 is about repealing a previous measure that limits campaign spending while allowing for public funds for campaigns. The right want to repeal it because they hold the money advantage here in FLA. I’m voting no because the previous measure helps level the playing field and I like that.

Any input from the teeming millions?

Do you think there’s a chance the people coming out to vote for the recreational marijuana and abortion rights initiatives will affect the races?

I got a chuckle out of a recent anti-#3 post on social media – “No to 3! It’s funded by Big Weed!”

As opposed to … a guy down the street who has two stalks of sinsemilla in his back yard? Small weed?

Beat in mind that, in Florida, an amendment needs 60% approval to pass.

#2 is dodgy because it says that hunting will be enshrined with “traditional methods” – and that could include gill nets, which are currently outlawed.

Per Wikipedia:
[T]he issue of concern with this type of net is the bycatch of species that are not targeted , such as marine mammals, seabirds and to a minor extent turtles. The use of drift nets longer than 2.5 kilometres on the high seas was banned by the United Nations in 1991.

So if #2 is seen as a backdoor method for getting gill nets reintroduced, which could be disastrous, and abruptly so.

#2 also says that hunting and fishing would be the PREFERRED way to manage wildlife. That means that if we build too close to nature and start having coyote sightings (like actually happens in my neighborhood), the constitutionally preferred method of dealing with the situation would be to shoot the coyotes.

I voted no. And it’s the only ballot issue I posted about on Facebook, because it’s one of the only issues that I think I could make a strong enough argument to actually influence someone’s vote.

I’m bumping this because I forgot to post the results.

#1 failed. Good.
#2 passed. Bad.
#3 failed. Bad.
#4 failed. Bad.
#5 passed. Bad.
#6 Failed. Good.

Depressingly like I expected.
