Years ago I confronted an armed trespasser scouting out where he’d be hunting deer. I took pictures with my phone and told him he was trespassing and to go away and not come back. (Of course I used expletives and threats)
It wasn’t until later that I thought about the fact that he had a gun and I didn’t.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess they would own guns anyway and in the good old USA it’s painfully easy to get a gun illegally.
How can these guys not be considered a threat to others? They just had a moving shootout on a highway with children in both cars.
That guy was really helping out his wounded daughter by still freaking out over the other driver. You’d think seeing your 14 year old daughter on the side of the road with a bullet in her side, being treated by a paramedic, would be your top concern. “I would never do anything to put my kids in danger” rings a little bit hollow when you have two kids with bullet holes in them.
Exactly. Anyone tailgating me, I pull over and let them by because I’d rather have such an idiot ahead of me and pulling away than behind me threatening to ram into my car if heaven forbid I have to brake suddenly. Am I encouraging them to be arseholes? Probably, but there’s nothing I could safely do to change their behavior anyway.
This type of behavior is why I no longer give people the finger for stupid shit. I just mutter imprecations and death wishes and move on. Like the man said: “Ya can’t fix stupid.”
Enraged tailgaters are an epidemic here (Texas). Add in the bullying tendencies of so many with pickups or large vehicles, and the road has become a threatening environment. Even trying to move out of their way can infuriate them, it seems.
After the last time of bubba trying to enforce his interpretation of speed limits, I am installing dashcams. That is, after I finish learning about them. Like anything electronic, the array of options and features is confusing at first. Trying to find a product that detects impacts and automatically uploads the event to a server with no operator action. Also, one that responds to voice commands and with enough resolution to ensure plates are readable. I don’t trust anyone anymore, and I want recordings physically beamed away from the car asap, either on preselected events or my voice. Still not sure if such a product exists though.
You can cover your whole car in them if you want. There are models that run off a battery and save to local storage so they’re completely self-sufficient and can mount everywhere. It depends on how many cameras you want to deal with maintaining.
What is particularly odd about this story is that both shooters saw a police car and went to it voluntarily, apparently both thinking the cop would take their side.
Unless they wanted the cop to administer first aid.
ISTM entirely possible that a hearing on their vehicular offenses has not yet happened. At least I would imagie the police/DA/courts would be giving priority to the armed assault part of the incident.
That’s what I was thinking too. I was looking to see if we temporarily suspend licenses of individuals charged with road rage but it’s not easy to look up as road rage isn’t a distinct offense in Florida.
I would assume, however, the guns and possibly the cars have been siezed as evidence.
