Florida wear anything that is a diguise and get arrested.

And Furries too!

I was with some other folks in costume at a sci-fi convention in Kansas City. We went to a McDonald’s away from the hotel, and those of us with facial coverings(my face was exposed) were told to take off the masks or be kicked out.

Whenever a stupid arrest like this is made, it’s usually the cop thinking, “I don’t like the cut of your jib, so I’m going to dig through every law I can think of, and pull out something ridiculous that might be vaguely related to what you’re doing so that I can stop you and find out if you’re committing any real crimes. If not, I’ll bust you for the fake crime I used to stop you for to begin with. You’re fucked.”

At the soccer game last night (US v El Salvador) one of the USA supporters was wearing a neoprene mask with red white and blue, sort of like the mucha lucca guys wear (he also had on a strange hard hat). After the game, on the way out, a Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputy gave him a hard time and told him to take it off. Guy said something like “Fuck, I’ve been wearing this the whole game.” Sheriff thought the guy had said “Fucker, I’ve been wearing this the whole game” and became especially belligerent - I thought masked dude was going to get arrested. But he clarified what he said and the deputy let it go, after the guy took off the mask. There was a lot of “free speech” going on there all night, anyway.

There were several attorney’s in our group at the game, so it would have been interesting if the deputy had effected an arrest. I don’t see anything masked dude was doing as violating any part of the statute quoted and it was certainly cold enough (low 50s, raining, windy) to make an argument for wearing face protection, at least by Florida standards if not by those in Montreal.

ETA: this was in Tampa, Florida.

But again, the guy bolted as soon as the cop car pulled up, so I don’t think the charge was ridiculous.

Yeah, I have no idea why the kid ran, but that still doesn’t stop the cop’s thoughts from being, “This kid rubs me the wrong way. Let me stop him for some ridiculous crime in order to determine whether or not a real crime is being committed. If not, I’ll get him for the ridiculous crime anyway,” considering that’s pretty much what happened, except the cop got to tag on the resisting arrest charge since the guy fled.

All their big gatherings are here in Pittsburgh. Compared to the average Yinzer, Furries dress the conservative side of “normal”.

Don’t know what PA is like these days. 35 years ago I got a ticket for wearing a ski mask while on my motorcycle but this past fall I got an official OK from the state to lead a “zombie motorcycle run” for charity. Either laws or their interpretation have changed.

Well, there has to be an exemption for Sarasota, right? What with all the circus folk that has to be Clown Central.

No, Tallahassee is Clown Central. Sarasota is the minor leagues.

She’ll probably be okay as long as her makeup routine doesn’t include whiteface and a big red nose.

Blackface is fine, though.
