Florida's Voter Fraud Police & lives destroyed

Sometimes an article really gets my attention. Take DeSantis’ Voter Fraud police. This kind of thing is obviously a political stunt. It’s attacking a problem that doesn’t exist in any material way. It’s meant to convey a quiet acceptance of the “election was rigged” theory from 2020. It’s meant to shore up the Republican primary voting base. But it also attacks those who are scraping through in society, the vulnerable, the working class, minorities, the people who are just getting by. Even if charges get dropped, and just about all of them have been dropped so far, the people who get accused have their lives ruined. Oh, and of course, it does its job in making people not believe in our electoral system, which is part of the purpose of the law, too.

It’s rotten to the core, and is a perfect example of what Republican government means in today’s world.

Those are the best kinds of problems; no definable cause and no resolution, so you can spin them out endlessly to instill fear, uncertainty, and doubt, and then when people complain, you respond with, “Well, how would you solve this problem, huh?”

DeSantis is a fascist little wiener. Unfortunately, the public seems to be largely accepting of fascist wieners of late.

Or you respond with “…so I created an Office of Election Crimes and Security that has already made over 20 arrests of individuals suspected of election fraud ”

And how many convictions?

“If they weren’t guilty, why did they resist arrest?”

As with many Republican policies, The Cruelty Is The Point.

Hey, its not my fault that the courts are controlled by the Soros deepstate.

Amen, amen, amen!

I am Carnivorousplant, and I endorse this message.

Trying to figure out–are you in support of this office and this move?

No. That was meant to be deeply cynical.

Got it–thank you!

Remember people, when it comes to Reactionary Right nuttery, nothing is so far out there that somebody doesn’t whole-heartedly support making it even worse.

All sarcasm needs to be labeled as such. That’s another the Reactionary Right nuttery has ruined.

Yes, but it’s also “Cruelty with a Purpose”. They get to be cruel, and casually wreck people’s lives. At the same time, they sow doubt and fear among those communities, which depresses voter turnout. So, there’s a point to it, as well, beyond the cruelty.

Another way of expressing a similar sentiment is in the form of Wolfpup’s Law of Evanescent Satire: “Every satirical article published in The Onion ridiculing Republican lunacy eventually ceases to be satire and becomes a news story”.

And not too long after that, it becomes actual enacted policy or law. At least in Those parts of the country.

Unfortunately for us hardy cold-weather northerners, “Those” parts of the country are almost universally the warm-weather ones, thus proving that there is no God. Or if there is, that he has a really nasty sense of humour.

Way back in college one of my roommates had a saying. I thought it was pretty good then, but over the years it’s proven far better than youthful me ever knew.

Just to underline your depression, you are not alone. They’re trying on something similar here.
