Well, if nothing else, the storms have brought the TallyDopers together.
I’m going into work early tomorrow, to get everything ready in case we are told to stay home on Friday.

I’m a little East of Tampa. We are having a faculty meeting tomorrow afternoon, possibly to discuss school closures.
My husband (a truck driver) has been on the road since mid June, and he gets to come home tomorrow for 4 days. Coincidence?
Hello from Panama City, TallyDopers!
We’re bracing for a lot of wind and rain. Currently it doesn’t look like the storm surge (the most destructive factor) is going to be very bad, maybe 3 to 5 feet.
National Weather Service Hurricane Warning and detailed coastal forecast.
We’re also watching the Weather Undergound Tropical Weather Page for info on both storms.
The data from this offshore weather data buoy should be interesting tomorrow morning as Bonnie passes by it.
I think I’m fairly safe for the moment in West Palm, but we’re taking precautions just the same. My supervisor and I were reviewing our hurricane policy this afternoon to see what we need to do to get our publications finished by deadline if we shut down on Friday. (Unlikely, but you never know. We were sent home early today because of a power failure.) In any case, I’ve already fueled up my car and gotten cash out of the ATM, and I always have plenty of candles on hand.
The rest of my family, however, is up in Citrus County, about 90 miles north of Tampa. They could get hit with the storm. My grandmother lives on her own, about 25 miles away from mom, and refuses to take any precautions. It drives my mom insane. I hope the two of them don’t end up in the same house all weekend.

Yeah, no joke!
Sharky I am in Panama City right now too. (Hometown) You aren’t that far from Tallahassee, so maybe you can make it to lunch as well!
It’s funny, some of you folks who are talking about getting hit are where we get evacuated to if it get’s bad here. I hope we get some nice flooding before we decide exactly where to live so I can see where the highwater marks are.
Maybe we can have a virtual HurriDope?
I just heard about these hurricanes on the news today. I hope they don’t hit too hard, and I hope they’re gone by next week. I leave Tuesday to move down to Miami.
I’m in!
Good. I’ll need help gathering provisions. Here’s a list of things, let me know which you have:
Did I miss anything?
Another Andrew vet checking in. One of the reasons we moved to Gainesville was to get out of Hurricane danger-spots.
I’m not particularly worried. I should probably call my mom, though.
You forgot the Jolly Ranchers, and the chemical warfare suits. That should cover it though I think.
Mrs Shibb just called (I’m in the office) and said that the store was completely out of bottled water already. Which I’d left off the list. Drat! This is mainly important since we like the taste better, and don’t yet have a water service. Oh well, there’s plenty of swampland and drainage nearby.
Night, all. (Off to the store and then home)
My family is on Sanibel. (Hence the name.)
Dad made reservations at a hotel near the airport in Fort Myers for tomorrow night. The city council issued a mandatory evacuation order as of 7 a.m. tomorrow. The current forecast track takes it just north of Sanibel on Friday afternoon, which means they’ll get the brunt of the storm surge. Plus there’s a high tide at noon and a new moon, which means… well, it means there won’t be much for them to come home to.
My grandparents have been up in Boston. They’re just coming home tonight and now they have to turn around and evacuate too. They’ve got it even worse, since they have a single-story house. Don’t worry, Dad got a room for them, too.
I’ll let you guys know how they fare. Best case for them, the storm makes landfall south of Sanibel and we miss the worst of the storm surge. Of course, that’s worse for people in Bonita and on Marco Island… Maybe it’ll just fizzle out. You think?
Oh, by the way, here’s a link to The National Hurricane Center / Tropical Prediciton Center. The site ivylass linked to doesn’t seem to be updating.

That would be kewl . . . it’s looking like I’m not going to make it to the Atlanta throw-down, but Tally is just a short hop from Vernon.
LOL @ ShibbOleth’s list.
If it’s going to fizzle out, it will happen as it crosses over Cuba. Maybe that will do the trick, let’s all keep our fingers crossed. Bonnie is just going to be a sloppy wet kiss compared to Charley’s destructive potential - they are predicting it will reach Category 2 before it hits Florida.
I don’t have time for this silly little storm. I have to work full speed tomorrow then at end of the day figure out if its really gonna hit us or not.
If it’s still tracking towards where I live, i’ll have to do the quick shop and go method. I like using drug stores for this, not so many insane people; would rather pay more and get out.
Hoping/guessing if Friday is bad, I won’t have to report in for work, because all I do is drive around from store to store all day long.
This is making my eye twitch. I hate having to change my well though out work plans.
My Uncle works for UPS. His route is on the beach. UPS told them that instead of reporting to work at 8:30, they have to come in at 9:30. Here’s to hoping that the storm will have moved on by then.
Earlier today, a co-worker of mine took this once in a lifetime oppotunity to sing, truthfully, “My Bonnie lies over the ocean…”
