On the radio this morning they’re reporting a Hurricane Watch from Tarpon Springs (one town north from me) down to Bonita Springs (not exactly sure where that is, except south). But a Hurricane Warning from Bonita Springs down to the Keys. Someone really doesn’t like Bonita Springs.
Should I think it’s weird that my daughter was really worried about hurricanes this past week and a half (well before we’d heard about Bonnie or Chuck)?
I’m here. We’re jamming at work to get the logs done, in case we can’t get in tomorrow.
And, oh joy, my boss just told me I’m considered “essential personnel,”, so in the case of “All non-essential personnel stay home,”, guess who will be driving down the turnpike to work tomorrow!!
Although, if it’s too dangerous, I stay home. No one is that essential.
I went to bed last night bracing myself to wake up to total Bonnie chaos. Instead, I woke up to birds chirping and rain splashing lightly down upon us. Bonnie went right past Panama City, thank goodness!
Be careful though to the rest of Florida, Charley looks to be no joke.
I’m sure all of you understand my relief that I seem to be in the clear from both of these storms, but do be careful, guys. I know they’re no joke.
Our local weather guys are just freaking out about the storms that will (unless Charley (WTF is with that spelling???) takes a turn west. You never know. But still, it’s funny. It’s like they WANT a hurricane to arrive or something.
We’re a bit south of West Palm (hi ladybug!), so I think we’re ok this time around. I’ve only lived down here for about a year and I’m really not looking forward to my first Florida hurricane!
How does one know if you’re stores are supposed to close?
What’s going on with the storms anyways?
About 5 this morning, I thought I saw something about it being downgraded, but I’m not too sure I can trust anything I’m thinking I’m hearing or seeing right now.
Howdy, fellow Tally-hos.
I think you might could add Jimmy Chitwood to the Tally list, unless he’s moved or I’ve got the wrong Jimmy.
I’m getting slightly more concerned now that our storms have begun. (I also have a couple of family members doing their best to freak me out!)
Mostly, I’m concerned because my house is being remodeled and my carpenters are even more likely than usual to flake out on me. The plumber has already taken off for parts unknown to get his boat out of the water, so I may have to evacuate this weekend in order to have facilities to evacuate in, if you take my meaning.
We are waiting here at work to see if the schools in Volusia County will be closed before we close the office. Stetson in DeLand and DBCC here by my office are both closing early tomorrow, as well as some of the Christian schools, but the public schools are holding off for the 5 pm report. I guess if we get a tropical storm warning at 5 they will be closing early.
Well, that (i.e., Tropical Storm Bonnie) was pretty lame. I counted one patch of heavy rain this morning, and that was it other than a few drizzles. It rained much more heavily yesterday, while Bonnie was still many miles away.
I’m a bit disappointed–I kinda like strong thunderstorms, as long as I’m safely inside, and it isn’t a truly dangerous storm. Bonnie looked like she could deliver that (strong rain but nothing too dangerous), but we didn’t get any strong storms–and, to make things worse, I had to come in to work today, when I’d been hoping I’d get to stay home. Thanks for nothing, Bonnie.
Now, Charley, on the other hand, looks much scarier–he’s much better organized than Bonnie, and looks like he could pack a wallop. In his projected path, he could brush Tallahassee–though it’s hard to predict where he’s going to end up soon.
No way. I work for a company that makes software that insurance adjusters use to clean up after storms like this. They have seen what kind of damage these kinds of storms can do first hand. They did ask for volunteers to work tomorrow for DOUBLE pay, but I’m not driving an hour through BFE in a hurricane for anybody. We’re going to finish putting up the storm panels and bring in the trash cans tonight and then just hang on tight.
You know, I was okay with the thought of sitting through a Category 1 and I didn’t flinch when it made Category 2, but now they’re talking Category 3 and I have this urge to head south…
