Hang in there, guys. I heard on the radio that some concrete power poles fell, so it’s not just restoring, it’s also rebuilding.
I just wanted to say that if any of you Polk County or Orlando Area dopers need anything (gallons of fresh water, a cooked meal, whatever) let me know. Sadly I can’t personally restore your electricity at home.
More people with power now.
Anyone run into price gouging?
How about this guy down in Ft. Myers who was tasered by police when he tried to get back to his house?
Last night Mr. Jones and I had to head to the mall because my daughter’s birthday is today and we hadn’t gotten her anything yet. The mall parking lot was filled with dozend and dozens of bucket trucks (I don’t know what else to call them) and there were armed soldiers directing traffic into the mall parking lot.
That was strange.
The good news is that I’ve finally heard news of my other brother and he and his family are all OK and their home didn’t suffer any damange. They’re without power and staying with his SIL.
My other brother finally got power yesterday.
Mom is still staying with me but we’re hopeful she’ll be back in her own home soon. (not that we mind her company)
Finally got my power AND cable back last night. I am such a whimp, I practically cried. Now that I have lights, though, I can see what a wreck my house is. There’s gonna be some serious cleaning this weekend.
I did hear a rumor that a local woman was charged $23,000 for taking out some trees. She turned out to be Mrs. Kevin Beary (Sherriff Kevin Beary). But it’s probably just a rumor. :dubious:
Not according to this
Still no power for us… I dragged the little Heppie Monkey (3 years old) in to the office at an ungodly hour this morning to shower in the “Executive” bathroom before I took him to school.
Well, my brother finally got a generator last night (no money to buy one, had to borrow from a family member who got their power restored.) My mom got one Sunday. My dad has a welding machine that he’s using as a generator.
I started cleaning up the mess at my house last night, sweeping out the mud and stuff from my screened porch out back, and getting the coolers put away.
We have two 100 quart coolers that I loaned to a neighbor last night. He was going to fill them with ice from the ice machines at his phosphate plant and take the ice to people in Hardee county, where his family is.
Himself (my husband) may actually come home to sleep tonight again. That will be nice.
Wow! Looks like those tree guys’ luck ran out. Sure hope they got nailed.
Heppie, glad you were able to get the peanut clean. Sending Tupug vibes out your way that you get your power back today.
Orlandopers, go to the TD Waterhouse Center today. They’re organizing a big food/blood/care package drive, so if you’re one of the lucky ones you can help, and if you need help, you can find it there.
Oh, and if you get hit up by one of these wandering tree-trimmers, make sure they provide you with written proof of insurance, otherwise if they get hurt on your property, it’s your pocketbook.
One of them stopped my my MIL’s house and offered to remove the tree for $300. Quite a deal, considering.
So, we still ain’t got no power.
On the bright side, since its so hot in the house, it doesn’t really matter that the water heater isn’t running because cold showers are the only way to stay cool anyway. :dubious:
Glad to hear you got yours back, Tupug… maybe that means we’re next. crosses fingers and wishes for it to be Magic Saturday already
Step 4:
Profit!
ARRRGGGGHHH!!! I am so feeling survivor’s guilt now.
rnatb, gots my fingers crossed for you and all the others still without power. (Well, maybe not so much for my CEO who just built a great big showplace house and doesn’t pay me squat)
Hang on RNATB… I think they’re working their way up Alafaya.
If all else fails, do what I did and hit the Theaters at Waterford Lakes … a double feature in the AC is a lovely way to pass the time.
Tupug, how did your puggers react during the hurricane?
Mega panting! Both during the storm and during the heat after. They didn’t seem to be scared, just excited during the storm, probably because we were walking around with candles looking out windows, trying to see what was going on. It was so hot Monday nite and they were so loud that I slept on the bathroom floor with them cause the tile was cool. It was really worrisome what with Pugs being so sensitive to heat.
Actually, I moved out of Oviedo… I’m living off Bonneville now, probably pretty close to you.
Keep an eye out for these bastards.
That makes me just ill. There must be a special place in hell for those bastards who are preying off the suffering and misery of others. Not that I am shocked that it is happening.
On the plus side, Tupag, Rick de Vos of the Orlando Magic donated $1 million to the relief effort, and arranged for the delivery of 80,000 pounds of ice.
RNATB, are you up and running yet?
Still no power for us, although they have power across the street so I’m hoping we’re on schedule for today.
I have some pics of our house and neighborhood here . Yes, I know it’s spelled wrong in the url. My husband is not much for details.
Notice in pic 120, the house across the street has a tree across BOTH cars. Bet they aren’t laughing at me for parking my van sideways in the driveway now.
