No, we were just speculating about what future recommendations would be.
Zostavax. It turned out to be less efficacious than the later Shingrix so a few of us in my age cohort coming of age for shingles prevention ended up needing both series and yes, they were about ten years apart coming onto the scene.
Zostavax came out in the US in 2006. Shingrix in 2017.
I didn’t realize that-- I knew Shingarix came out around then, but it came out exactly the year I turned 50. That’s why I’ve never had any other.
My husband had the earlier one, and had to be redone, even though he is actually a couple of years younger than I am, because he had shingles before he was 50 (age 46), so he had the vaccine before he was 50. He got the vaccine after recovering from the first outbreak, and hasn’t had them again.
Yeah, I got both of them also. I don’t remember the minimum age for Zostavax – I was 55 in 2006 – but I would have gotten it close to whenever I became eligible and it was available. My mother survived a really nasty case of shingles that landed her in the hospital and left her with disturbed balance for the rest of her life, and I wasn’t taking any chances on it. When the shingrix first came out the availablilty was shaky and I had to time both shots for when it wasn’t overly busy farm season as that can knock you out for a day or two, so since I had had the Zostavax I think it took me a year or two to pull off getting the Shingrix; but I did get it.
Nope, I’m sure it was Shingrix, because I remember a discussion here that I’d eventually have to talk Mr. brown into getting it again, this after I had told him that Shingrix was a one-and-done vaccine. I was not looking forward into another argument over it when he’s in his late 70s, so now I’m reassured that it actually is one-and-done, as far as we know.
I haven’t done anything like TDAP or pertussis or tetanus so I guess I’ll discuss all of that when I see my GP in April on another matter.
Yeah, that one is every ten years and it’s also a really good idea. Your GP may be able to give it at the appointment. ETA: I’ve never had any particular reaction to it.
My GP has given it to me at my appointment. And i always have an unpleasant reaction to it. But it is a really good idea, and i always say, “yes” when he suggests it.
