The flu thread

Any of youse get the flu this year? As I write this, I’m sitting in urgent care with aches, dry hacking cough, fever, headache, fatigue and phlegm .

Check in if you’ve got it or had it. They’re saying this is an especially nasty year as the vaccines are largely ineffective.

Not yet. We’re really trying to avoid crowds and use hand sanitizer whenever possible. We got the extra dose vaccine because of our age, but are not relying on that for much protection. We deliver Meals on Wheels to a large retirement building, so we’re exposed there, especially in the elevator. I really hoping to avoid it again this year.

I caught something. Unsure if it is the flu or not.

Symptoms were runny nose, sore throat, headache, coughing, fatigue, eye pain, trouble sleeping. No muscle pain, and I didn’t check for a fever.

But the illness itself wasn’t terrible as far as illnesses go. What was bad was the lingering cough afterwards. I have felt like I had something stuck in my lungs that I can’t cough up. I was getting worred I’d cough so hard I’d pull a muscle (which I’ve done before, very unpleasant to combine an involuntary spasmic motion with a pulled muscle).

I first started having symptoms thursday night the 11th. I still have lingering symptoms.

I got hit with a fever, headache, and awful malaise on Tuesday. I’m feeling okay now, but Mrs. Shark has taken to her with the same symptoms + cough and snot. I don’t know if we’re outta the flu woods . . .

I’m not sure if what I had was the flu either, but I was out of the commission the last part of the long weekend through Thursday. I had three solid days with a fever, no appetite, no energy, an a dry cough. I though Wednesday evening that I’d be good to go. I thought I’d take some Nyquil to ensure a good night’s sleep. It didn’t help me sleep or stop coughing, and I got dizzy when I stood up for any length of time. I work with elementary school students, so that wasn’t going to work. I went back home and lay down 2 or 3 hours, then I was fine. I’m still a little wiped out, though. Most food tasted different the whole time I was sick; only a Chipotle chicken burrito bowl and a peanut butter sandwich tasted normal. Other stuff wasn’t bad, or even tasteless, but it didn’t taste right either.

Yup, exactly what I had - I was okay in the morning, but a few hours later felt like I’d been hit by a truck. I thought it was the beginning of the killer flu, but after three days of the crud I’m okay – still have the energy of a soggy string of linguini, though. I guess it could have been food poisoning. I did barf once, not sure if fever is a feature of food-borne illness.

I hope the wifey isn’t getting something worse . . .

Today’s posting disclaimer: lost my glasses, please excuse any horrific editing errors.

Gawd, I am hoping to avoid it. The lil’wrekker says her dorm is all sick. I am hoping its not flu. They required flu shots at enrollment, but that aint working this year. She has try outs for a musical they are doing this week so she’s trying to stay away from everyone and using purel and Lysol wipes. She has a target on her back, though.

Anyway, if y’all don’t hear from ol’ Happy again, 'twas the influenza that got me.

I also had what P-man had. Was off a week from work, home in my jammies. All I did was sleep when I wasn’t hacking up a lung. My thorax hurt for 3 days. Two weeks later and I’m still exhausted at the end of the day. And I had a flu shot.

I received a shot in early November and I am taking all possible precautions to avoid the deadly scourge.
I would be interested to know how many of you get it after youv’e had a shot.

Yes, I was down for two weeks.

I got the shot, but so far, no flu. The most I’ve dealt with is sniffles that come and go, and an occasional dry cough. Probably allergies.

When we went to breakfast, our server (we’ve known her for years) told us she was in the hospital last week with the flu. She looked great today, but she said it kicked her ass last week.

I know a RN who told me the somewhat local Hospital ( or death chamber) is full of nursing home patients with confirmed flu. I have 3 scheduled visits with my therapy dog to visit the nursing homes in the area. I think I’ll cancel til after Feb.

Oh boy, yes I was sick for what felt like ages. It started around Christmas and lasted well into the new year. I felt like death warmed over. The coughing was so awful, so much nasty phlegm. I felt twice my age and had no energy. I’m still not 100% back to normal.

I hope you feel better Happy.

Same, thats what I’m going through. Most of the symptoms are gone, but the fatigue and cough are still here. I don’t know when this crap will end. I’m on day 10 now. I’ve had colds, and those are done in 3-4 days so I don’t think I have a cold.

This cough makes it shitty. Other than the cough, it wasn’t any worse than any other respiratory infection.

I seem to have escaped infection, at least so far. Half of our office (a 9-1-1 call center) is out sick and we are juggling the schedule like mad to keep enough semi-healthy people working to maintain coverage. And one young and normally quite healthy coworker has ended up hospitalized and on a ventilator! This flu is freakin’ serious this year!

I didn’t get s shot, due to pure inertia on my part. A colleague who did is deathly ill.

The Big Crow has been pestering me to get the shot since he got his in September. I suppose, at this point, it’s just pure orneriness that makes me not do it. I’ve never gotten one before, so why should I get one now, dammit!? (Though I admit this year’s strain sounds pretty darn scary.)

The worst I’ve gotten this season was something that made my stomach feel like crud for about a week, along with a nasty sinus headache on and off in the same time. Acetaminophen helped a lot.

So, you don’t care about all the other people who may get it because you didn’t get it to help the herd immunity?

My wife usually avoids The Crud That’s Going Around, or gets over it overnight.

But she’s been out for four days with this flu. Killer stuff…
