Slow Ride! Fool for the City! I just want to make love to you!
We’re going to see Foghat tonight at the local Indian casino. It’s a tiny room, actually the stage is like 20 feet from the booths. $15! We saw Mickey Thomas there a few years ago, yeah he played “we built this city” but otherwise it was pretty fun.
We have limited live music here in Palm Springs, unless we drive to LA or San Diego. Obviously, Coachella Festival is great. But most of the casinos choose to showcase Wynona or Sinbad or Michael Bolton. Not exactly our style.
And suddenly I have Margaret Cho’s bit about the dealer-addict relationship and how it’s not like a regular business relationship because you have to pretend to be his friend. “Foghat!”
Yeah, Lonesome Dave Peveritt! (probably spelled wrong) I’m a fan. I saw 'em in concert a couple times a long time ago. I always wondered if the name was a Spoonerism of hogfat.
I saw them open a couple of shows at Winterland, and then later when they headlined a show at The Cow Palace on the “Fool For The City” tour. Great band, and Dave was a great frontman.
Wow, I can think of a lot worse songs than Slow Ride.
But then I came of age in the 70’s.
I saw Foghat back then; always had a soft spot in my heart for those guys, they’ve had their ups and downs.
These days, I’d sooner pay $15 to see Foghat in some tiny venue than $100 to see Mick Jagger in a stadium.
