It figures that my favorite garment is a pittable offense.

But it’s COZY, dammit.

Ditto. I’ll keep sitting over here in my Carhartt jeans and button up plaid short-sleeve shirts and watch the fashionistas in their plumage.
There was just an article in the paper today about high end jeans, some of them cost over $250 a pair! Even if I had the money to spend, I hope some light in my head would turn on and say “Hey dumbass, you’re about to spend $250 on blue jeans”
Ok, in all fairness, if you’re going to link to catalog shots of models who look great in these zippered sweaters, you should also post photos of ordinary people in them, too. (Where is there a link to a 1977 Midwestern High School yearbook’s AV club group photo when you need one?)
Sure, they look great on fashion models: everything looks good on fashion models. That’s how they set up the punch line (your actual appearance being the punch line).
I wouldn’t classify “hoodies” (god but I hate even typing that word) as sweaters. Is that what the OP is refering to? If so, while I think they’re ugly as sin, I don’t think a zipper hurts them. If we’re talking about the example that amarinth linked to, then yeah, I don’t find that attractive. Clarification people!I now find myself intrigued and I simply must know what these evil zippered sweaters look like :dubious:
I would, but the only one I have is covered by my academic gown (not to mention sideways).
(And yes, I know my tank top is too short. That’s why I always wear it with a sweater!)
Clarificaton: sweaters, with zippers, not sweatshirts hooded or otherwise (the confusion arireses from my shopping for a sweatshirt when I encountered the zippered sweaters)
I also encountered the return of the ** big, bulky turtle neck for men**. I didn’t want to muddy the OP water with my equal ire for this, but here was another zombie fashion unacceptable on anyone other than Scott of the Antarctic - and only then in the last stages of hypothermia.
Why is there no love for cardigan sweaters with buttons?
Thank you! My mom was upset because she saw a commercial for skinny jeans after she bought several pairs of boot cut (which look great on her, BTW). She told me that she’d be horribly out of style. She felt better once I explained that the fashion police have to change the styles every year so people will spend money to replace clothes that haven’t worn out yet.
I don’t care how many Audrey Hepburn commercials the Gap shoves in my face – you’ll get my boot cut jeans when you pry them from my cold, dead hands!
We called them “bunny hugs” in Saskatchewan. Now, who wouldn’t want a hug from a warm, fuzzy bunny?
ladybug, your mom does know that if you wore it once, you can’t wear it again when it comes back in style, right? It’s the law.
You’re welcome. I have not yet seen a pair (outside stores and ads) in San Francisco, and ladies there are quite fashion aware.
OTOH, I suppose Kate Moss has a couple pair- but even there, I suppose she’d prefer something with enough room in the pockets for the drugs.
Buttons?
Buttons?
BUTTONS!?
<sob>
Do not despair. All is not lost. I have cardigans with zippers and cardigans with buttons. Lots of pullovers, too. Then again, I have something like 40 sweaters. It could be more, I haven’t counted recently. I am the sweater queen of Southwest Minnesota.
Amen, sisterfriend.
It should be, anyway.
My feeling about the 80s revivial is that if I were to wear that stuff, people would, at best, assume that I’d held onto the originals, and at worst, assume that I’d been wearing that stuff all along!
I do have a number of zipper sweaters though. Mine have hoods, but they’re definitely sweater material. I love them, and they look great on me.
On skinny leg pants: I was browsing the Old Navy website one day and saw some. They made the models look fat. Now if they made the size-2 models look fat, how are they going to look on my size 12 ass? Yeah, that’s what I thought. I prefer to make myself look less fat than I really am, not more, thank you very much!
So here’s another “you can have my boot-cut jeans when you pry them from my cold, dead hands.” You can’t have my straight-leg pants either.
I believe I am the Sweater Queen of Florida, and how sad is that? I have so many sweaters, and so few cool days to wear them on!
Heh. The Sweater Queen of Florida. That is a little sad. Could you get a job at a hockey rink or something? Or maybe you just need to plan a yearly trip to a state with a colder climate. We go to Florida in the winter for a week of warm weather. It would be pretty funny if you came to Minnesota for a week of cold weather. We might think you’re nuts, but you’re welcome to stay as long as you like.
I find women around sz 12 to be just the right size for me. Shapely without being skinny or fat. Of course, that depends on the sz 12.
Oh, there’s definitely nothing wrong with a size 12. But imagine how a pair of jeans that makes a size 2 look fat would make me look. Like a size 24? I’m not going to find out.
Is “nippy” when it gets cold enough to turn the headlights on?
I have much love for cardigan sweaters with buttons. Specifically, fine-gauge knit COTTON (allergic to wool) button-up sweaters without embellishments. In black. Damn it all.
