Fondue Set. Opinions.

So the girlfriend wanted a Fondue Set for Christmas. My dumbass didn’t get out until Christmas Eve, and both Bed Bath and Beyonds I could find were out of the one we had seen earlier on. So was SuperTarget, World Market, and wherever else I ventured that horrible horrible day.

At this point, I’m just thinking of ordering one online, since her birthday was earlier this week. This has brought my number of options to a level I am not comfortable with.

I know she wants one that isn’t a chocolate only or cheese only model.

Anybody have thoughts/opinions/experience in these matters?

Thanks much,
TBKON

Get an electric one so you don’t have to fiddle with those little sterno containers. If it’s a nice one, you can deep fry in it too!

West Bend makes an electric pot that has a non-stick lining. I have two of them so I can do both a meat and cheese fondue at the same time. I’ve never heard of a pot that’s only for cheese.

My wife and I have used one of these for nearly 10 years. It has a Teflon lining, a good thermostat and we’ve used it for cheese fondue and meat fondu (you know where you essentially fry the meat then dip it in sauce.) And I think the new ones have that nifty quick disconnect plug so you don’t yank it off the table if you happen to trip on the cord.

Typically, the pots advertised for “chocolate” and “cheese” are the same thing; ceramic fondue pots heated with a candle (the small ones) or liquid fuel, or Heat-in-a-Can. The ones that are good for meat fondues (heating oil or broth) are typically made of metal, and heated the same way. We have one of each, which is particularly useful when you choose to do a meat fondue followed by a chocolate one for dessert!

As far as I can tell, even the cheapest pot you can buy will last you forever, so just pick something in a price range you like, and in a colour your girlfriend would like!

Hint: Skipping her Christmas present & then forgetting her birthday would not win the Good GF-keeping seal of approval.

Ok…I am the said girlfriend, and I have to say that he did not skip Christmas nor forgot my birthday  . In fact, he got me a cast iron skillet that I asked for like 5 months ago and had forgotten about; a board game that I have been wanting for almost a year now; and an aquarium (for the kitties and me–).
For my birthday he showed up to a family dinner with wine in a day he was supposed to be out of town… so by no means he is my bad list. AND to top it all, he took me to dinner tonight, and stopped at bed bath and beyond to check on the fondue set —and they had it, so I am now a proud owner of a fondue set !! Guess what we are having for dinner tomorrow?
