(I am referring to food items you buy online that are shipped to your door, and not simply delivered from a local store.)
I can find just about everything I need at Kroger or Walmart. But neither carries my favorite popcorn salt: Flavacol. I can purchase a 35 oz. carton from Amazon for $9.
I buy Protein One 90 calorie protein bars online, in bulk, because they are about 2/3 the price of buying them in a store.
I buy Wowbutter (soy nut butter that doesn’t separate) online because there is one (count it, one) store in my large and sophisticated city that carries it. Most stores have no soy nut butter at all. One health food store has soy nut butter that takes 15 minutes of stirring together before it’s fit to eat (and yes, I do have one of those stirring gadgets that comes with a lid to fit the jar, to contain the mess; it’s still a royal pain).
I buy loose tea in bulk online because I like some of the blends better than anything I can find in person. There is one bulk tea store in the city, and I do get some teas there when I’m in the area, but they are the more common ones like China Black and English Breakfast. Average price there is $10 per pound, which is hugely inexpensive. I wish I liked more of their other teas, but mostly they leave me cold.
I’ve bought Stonewall Kitchens Cranberry Horseradish Sauce for years locally, although I first found it down at the fabled Ithaca Bakery. Now Wegmans stopped carrying it and I’ve turned to Amazon.
I bought a big jar of Starburst candy from Amazon. I’ve never seen it sold that way locally. [It’s a large plastic jar with lid.](Starburst Candy Original Bulk Fruit Chews 54oz Jar Gluten Free https://a.co/d/dmTDbDp)
I get a case of Dinty Moore stew from Amazon. It ships automatically every 3 months. I checked locally and it’s cheaper to buy a case.
Cains Coffee, from Amazon. It’s a commercial Restaurant product. Can’t easily buy locally.
My wife has some “tea” goop that looks like preserves but you put a spoonful in hot water and stir it up. She found a giant jar of it at Costco once but the last few times we’ve gone they didn’t have it (such is the way of Costco) so now she’s ordering it online since no local grocery/organic store seems to carry it.
Yeah, that’s the stuff. We had a, well, “Costco-sized” jar of it that she went through but now she buys it in more like a mayo-jar sized jar online after failing to find it locally.
I’ve got one of those quart paper container things of flavacol I’ve had for years. How do you use it? I’ve tried adding to popping oil in a pot, but it never seems to deliver the movie theater thing.
I order condiments from amazon, Geeta’s chutney, Kitchen King curry powder mix, Valhrona chocolate coins.
Tea, I’ve found “Typhoo” tea at the local grocery chain, in the int’l aisle. Very good and makes very good iced tea.
I don’t buy much food online. I just checked my Amazon history going back five years and didn’t see any food there.
I do sometimes buy things to drink online. I bought some Krispy Kreme coffee pods from Amazon as a Mother’s Day gift. I bought some flavored water because I was offered a promotional price from Hint (but I don’t plan on buying any more at their regular price). I have bought tea from Adagio on several occasions. I have also bought Red Rose flavored tea from Amazon.
Bundaberg soft drinks are quite popular here, but certain flavours are not guaranteed to be available at the supermarket, so I order them online. They’re cheaper, I don’t have to lift and carry them, or travel to get them. Win, win, win.
I’ll buy canned stuff or specialty items online. A lot of it’s a rip off but you can get nice deals on cases of canned foods from Amazon if you just do a little pricing research. I’ve gotten sardines there for a better price than the supermarket. Or I’ll order canned, jarred, or dried Asian food items that I either just can’t get locally or can’t get the brands I want locally.
