I watched her for years. She was great hosting Worst Cooks in America. It’s shocking to me that she’s suddenly gone. I guess her cause of death is unknown at this point.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … EMS personnel received a call of a woman in need of assistance Tuesday morning after Burrell was found unresponsive inside her Brooklyn home.
Paramedics were unable to revive Burrell and declared her dead. The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine her cause of death.
I remember she just got married a few years ago too. This is tragic.
Worst Cooks is one of the only shows I actually binge-watch, mostly because of her. She was SO good at teaching the ignorant but earnest how to cook. Even this Good Eats gnu could recognize the perfection in her communication techniques.
She’s a legend. I also learned how to properly hold a chef knife from watching her mark people’s index fingers over and over. It’s like she was behind me with her red Sharpie every time.
I’m so saddened by this. For years I’ve loved watching her teach, compete, and judge. I remember seeing her as a sous chef on Iron Chef America a gazillion (or so it seems) years ago. She was just great.
I never watched Worst Cooks, but I watched her cooking show, and really enjoyed her flamboyant style. Quite surprised to find that she is/was 21 years younger than I. I didn’t think her white-blonde hair was due to age, but I thought she was closer to my age. RIP.
The New York City Police Department is investigating the death of Anne Burrell, the popular Food Network star who was found dead in her Brooklyn home on Tuesday morning, as a possible drug overdose, according to an internal document viewed by The New York Times.
The document said Ms. Burrell, who was 55, had been “discovered in the shower unconscious and unresponsive surrounded by approximately (100) assorted pills.”
I think accidental overdose is more likely (the wrong combination of drugs, or drugs not legally manufactured and thus having wildly inconsistent product strengths).
I thought accidental overdose, too, but everything I’ve read said she was found with hundreds of pills nearby. Hundreds doesn’t sound accidental. The whole thing is very tragic no matter the cause. She was young, vibrant, and so talented. I wonder how long the investigation will be and when its findings will be released.
