Speaking of Coke products, I haven’t seen Vanilla Coke Zero in quite some time. At one point about a month ago, the entire Coca Cola section of the pop aisle was nothing but Coke and Diet Coke. No Coke Zero, no Pibb, no Sprite, no flavored varieties of anything. They have slowly been creeping back in, including other flavors of Coke Zero, but no vanilla.
That might be regional. The Best Buy near me (Santa Barbara) has lots of black dishwashers in the $280 - $600 range that you can have delivered in three days to two weeks.
From what I can tell, there seem to be little hiccups in the various vendors’ supply chains that are probably causing this, when it’s like one brand out of a category that’s out of stock.
Otherwise, what I’m seeing is stuff like outdoor cooking/barbecuing stuff being kind of scarce, as well as gardening supplies and other stuff people do when stuck at home for extended periods.
They probably place an O&V dressing at the restaurant, before delivering it, and aren’t doing that because it’s dispensed out of a bulk container. Did they give you little packets?
Maybe - I ordered a Microwave Oven from Best Buy and everything seemed OK. Until today I got an email saying it was delayed and if they don’t get it resolved they will cancel my order next week.
What gave me the most grief in the end was the shortage of the cat food that my cat likes the best, Felix Gravy Lovers. Other kinds of Felix were around but no Gravy Lovers or it’s close cousin Concoctions. For a while there was only the fish variety and then none at all.
It’s not that she absolutely won’t eat anything else it’s just such a palaver. If she didn’t walk off in disgust she would just sit with her back turned to the offending food. After a couple of days I discovered that she would lower herself to eat a jelly variety if I gave it a shake of crunchy sprinkles. As it was give in or starve I honestly think this was a face saver.
Now that GL is back in all the supermarkets it’s just so nice to have her eagerly chomping away at her food
And in Montreal there seems to be a caffeine-free Diet Coke crisis for some strange reason.
The best temperature for cat food is recently dead mouse. They don’t sell those in grocery stores, though. Our co-owner is fine with most wet foods, but our local stores don’t seem to be able to keep Fancy Feast on the shelves. Yeast is back, as is most everything else here in rural western western Western Washington.
My local Costco has the Red Star yeast on the shelves. King Arthur Flour’s website says Saf Instant is in stock for $5.95 a pound.
My mother-in-law drinks caffeine free diet Dr Pepper, and it’s been out of stock for weeks. She asked one of the beverage delivery guys who was restocking about it. It’s a supply problem, he apparently said, with the carbonation. They don’t have enough to produce all the varieties, so they’ve cut back to 8 flavors for the time being. Don’t know if that’s true, but that was his explanation.
This article (New York Times paywall warning) explains some of the weird shortages as a result of the manufacturers concentrating their efforts on the most popular products.

As far as I know, all the dressing comes in sealed packets. I don’t think they have a vat of oil & vinegar in the back but I haven’t been back there to say for certain.

I’ve noticed a lot of empty spaces in the Lean Cuisine /Smart Ones section. Many of the fish, chicken or turkey ones that my wife likes are scarce.
Me too, although for me it’s their regular turkey and chicken entrees.
Dawn dishwashing soap. The blue is available, but I can’t stand the smell of it. We had to make a Target run about a month ago to see if they had Dawn, and they only had the giant size and the tiny size of non-blue scented.
Tofu has been in short supply since the quarantine started here. For a month or two, I never saw it in the local “regular” (Safeway, QFC) or organic (Whole Foods, PCC) supermarkets. Since then, it’s intermittent, and the selection is poor: maybe they have silken and sprouted, but not the regular firm.
As far as I’ve been able to tell, though, the local Asian superstore has never had problems keeping it in stock. They’re just less conveniently located.
The NYT article linked upthread briefly mentions tofu, but doesn’t speculate on the reason. I’ve heard people mention it’s being used as a meat substitute, so with the meat shortages, you also get tofu shortages. But I haven’t actually witnessed any meat shortages here! It continues to baffle me.

The local supermarkets here in Northern California are limiting chicken purchases to two packages. And all deli meat is missing, except for bologna and some turkey and chicken. No ham.
Likewise, I only use the blue Dawn soap. I bought a giant bottle a while back, so I’m OK so far.
It’s pickling season. I bought a gallon of white vinegar today. I’m pickling peppers.
How many pickled peppers?
A peck, obviously

A non-food item in short supply: bicycles.
Both e-bikes and real bicycles. And not just bicycles, but everything associated with them: spare parts, bike clothes, etc. While I appreciate my hobby becoming more popular, I’m not really happy I can’t find bike shorts. I needed three new pair the last time I went to the bike shop and they only had one.
