Foods that nobody buys, even in a pandemic.

Here’s a light hearted news story. We all could use a laugh right now.

I’ve seen similar empty shelves at my local store. There’s always a few unpopular items noone buys.

I had no idea pizza with pineapple is so unpopular. LOL It’s not my first choice, but it’s better than no pizza.

I can relate to the dislike of cauliflower-based products.

What I found interesting is that the cookie aisle was fully stocked.

I saw an article last week that showed empty shelves except canned pinto beans.

That’s really odd. A seasoned pot of beans with cornbread is one of my favorite meals. We normally buy dried beans because they’re cheaper. But canned beans are good too.

I can’t remember who it was, or which one of the many threads it was posted in, but one Doper mentioned that she went to the store in hopes of finding her favorite guilty pleasure, vegetarian corn dogs. The frozen food section was picked bare, except for the untouched vegetarian foods.

That’s exactly what I noticed at Target last weekend. Canned kidney beans, black beans, and chickpeas were completely gone, but they had plenty of canned pinto beans. I found that surprising here, too, since pinto beans are a staple in Mexican cooking, are a common burrito filling, etc. But then again I don’t buy pinto beans either. I prefer black beans in my burritos.

The one I thought was funny was in the soda aisle was almost all the 12-packs of Coke, Pepsi, Mtn. Dew, Dr. Pepper, etc. were all gone. There were a few cases of Orange Vanilla Coke and Dr. Pepper Cherry left, but that was about it. But they had plenty of Sprite, Sierra Mist, 7-Up, Orange Crush, and other caffeine-free sodas. No one has use for caffeine-free soda in a pandemic!

I found the same. All the ground beef was sold out, but they still had the Beyond Meat fake ground “beef”. I took it as an opportunity to try it out, since I’ve always been curious about it.

First time I went out I went to grab some frozen vegetables. Only option left was frozen broccoli. Why is it the black sheep of the frozen vegetable world? I don’t know, but I bought some for the first time in my life.

Our local grocer has plenty of milk, eggs, medicines, soap, cheese, bread, etc. But the snack food aisles have been devastated. Who knew Cheetos were a disaster food?

The actual foods starting to be in short supply include cereal, pasta, and anything else you can make in 10 minutes. We are not a neighborhood full of gourmets, apparently. Or healthy people.

Yesterday on a quick trip down the frozen vegetable cases, and the only thing in good supply was frozen okra.

The only available sour cream at the two supermarkets I went to was… Tofutti Milk Free Sour Cream, which was in abundance.

I guess people would rather die than eat that stuff.

I havn’t been in the stores. But Mr.Wrekker has been panic shopping. I was looking at the stuff he bought. He had a case of dried beef. WTH? I don’t think I’ve ever even considered that. Ever!
What is it for?

Make lots of SOS.

Man, I’d leave that behind, too. That stuff’ll kill ya.

What better time to eat beans than when you’re stuck at home by yourself?

Surprisingly, the beer case had barely been touched. Bought me a couple of twelve packs of Negro Modelo. It is a little disturbing that the shelves are starting to become permanently empty. Fallout 5 here we come irl.

Okra is nasty stuff. I’d leave it behind too.

I would think it would be the most popular. It’s always been the go-to for my wife and kids when it comes to having some veggies with a meal, though the California blend works as well. In fact, I can’t really think of what other frozen vegetable would serve this role.

If you’re a fan of crisp, fresh broccoli, you’ll find out when you cook it and eat it.

I bought some of that and the mushroom/spinach pizzas that were left behind. Both tasty combinations to me.

99% of the canned soup was gone. Except onion soup. Which is awesome for cooking. Snatched 4 cans up.

Maybe under normal circumstances. But I cooked up a package of dried 15 bean soup mix last weekend. Since it makes a pretty huge number of servings, I had a bowl of bean soup for lunch pretty much every day last week. In hindsight, eating something so high in fiber when toilet paper is in such short supply might have been a bad idea.
