Really? Wow. I have never seen it in Boston.
the mc-rib from mcdonalds
lemon coolers! I can’t find them anywhere, a wonderful cookie.
Carnation Instant Breakfast bars. How am I gonna take my son camping without 'em?
Danish go-rounds! Now those were trippy.
Bummer about the Fizzies. I’d still try one, though.
You are correct, they were some form of re-formed potato. On more than one occasion as a kid, I asked to have those fries as my dinner. Guess how many times my parents let me do that.
I miss Dr. Pepper, too. Always go out of my way for it when I’m in the US.
the finnish boyfriend wants me to tell you guys that he misses salmiakki from the motherland. I don’t miss it though. That stuff is foul.
I loved the old Taco flavored Doritos. I was really excited when they relaunched them a few years ago (I think they said Taco Bell) but they were NOT the same.
I think **baffle **was saying it was rare to find beets on a hamburger.
What I miss most is Strawberry Crush soda. It was good all by itself, but add two scoops of vanilla ice cream and you have nectar of the gods. Also, put me down as a fan of Turkish Taffy.
Available through the Hometown Grocer, already mentioned upstream.
I’m in Arkadelphia, AR, so of course it’s everywhere. Much to the dismay of some Dr Pepper lovers.
I loved Beeman’s too.
Rennin? That sounds scary. Wouldn’t it taste like urine and raise your blood pressure?
I miss Big Hunk candy bars. It was chewy in your mouth, but it would shatter if you hit it before it got warm.
Also available through Hometown Favorites
Quite the place.
Fizzies.
Mr. Cola.
Carnation Instant Breakfast.
Root Beer Kool-Ade.
For a year or so there was something called Quick Shakes or some such - a powder you mixed with milk in a brown plastic shaker that came with the “starter kits”.
Those large purple suckers, some of which came with a “You’re a winner!” sticker on the backside - get one of those and you got another one free.
How I survived childhood on a diet like this, I’ll never know.
Come to the metro NYC area. It’s all over the place here.
Habitant Split Pea soup
and
Caines Mayonaise
both were plentiful in MA
Can’t find either here in SC
There used to be these cocoa flavoured candy cigars - bigger than those little white fake cigarettes that are now just called ‘candy sticks’, but made of the same sort of brittle, crumbly sugar candy.
You can get ‘chocolate sticks’ now, which are just paper-wrapped cylinders of gritty chocolate, and you can still get the white candy sticks, but I can’t find the chocolate candy cigars anywhere, and I’ve looked far and wide, for years. I haven’t seen them since my late teens - more than a couple of decades ago.
They had a distinctly powdery-cocoa mouthfeel to them and I miss them terribly.
Entenmann’s fudge iced devil’s food cupcakes. That thick, fudgy icing. The soft chocolate cake around thick cream in the center.
G-d, I miss those. Curse whoever’s responsible for discontinuing that product.
Burger King’s old fries. They weren’t as good as McDonald’s but they were better than the crap they have now.
Carnation Instant Breakfast Bars. They were dry as dust, chalky, and awesome with a big glass of milk. Then they changed them and made them chewy or something and ruined them.
