Your favorite old food

I’m pretty sure that favorite foods have been done to death and their bones ground up for cakes that were passed all around.

So let me try for a new spin.

What were some of your favorite foods foods when you were growing up that just aren’t made any more? Commercially available stuff please. I’m sure your great grandmothers pineapple upside down beans were wonderful, but you couldn’t buy a package of them off the shelf at Piggly Wiggly.

Food, candy, drinks, what do you miss?

This thread brought to you by Freakies cereal and the letters XYZZY.

Forgive me if this is still available, but my brother and I used to make up two varieties of fudge with Junket packaged mixes. Damn good stuff. Easy. Quick. But I guess it’s been decades since then.

I’ll try hard to remember stuff I liked that can’t be found anymore.

Corkscrews? Not sure that’s the right name, but they were corkscrew shaped corn chips.

Cheese Kisses. Individually-wrapped candy-size “cheese.”

Grape Tang - I swear I’m not making this up!

Raisins, Rice 'n Rye breakfast cereal.

Forever Yours Candy bar - Dark chocolate over some kind of white nougat and caramel.

Zots? Hard candy filled with something that fizzed when you reached it.

Pillsbury Wheat nuts.

Cookie Crisp Cereal.

Waffelos Cereal.

Gator Gum and Freshen Up Gum (the gum that goes Squirt!)

If anyone knows where to find any of these, lemmeno!

Tahitian Treat soda.

I haven’t seen it in ages. Last time I saw it was the mid 90’s.

A quick google give me this…

They have an order page. See if it’s as good as you remember!

I don’t know where you’d find it, but I do know Cookie Crisp is still alive and well.

Oh yes. Raisin Grape Nuts cereal.

And in the not so distant past, Gatorade snack bars, specifically the orange ones.

Suddenly S’mores. Please tell me someone else remembers these.

Kickin’ Kiwi Lime Kool-Aid…sooo good and sooo green.

You made me drool! I loved those too.

I miss Mallow Cups – candy bar shaped like a cupcake. Marshmallow creme surrounded by chocolate.

I also miss Campbell’s Cream of Vegetable soup. Mom mixed it with cooked ground beef and dumped it on a bun. The other Campbell’s vegetable flavors don’t come close.

I think they were called Golden Fruit or Golden Raisin Bars. They were long cookie bars with raisin filling, and you broke off little rectangles. They were good, and not too sweet. I think they came in a couple of other flavors, but the raisin ones were the best.

Laffy Taffy - the grapiest stuff ever made.
Candy Cigarettes
Space Food Sticks
Marathon Bars - chocolate covered caramel.
Whacky Packs - like baseball cards, but had jokes on real products. Land 'O Quakes butter. I can’t remember any others…
EDIT: and Quisp! Roof-of-your-mouth shreddin’est cereal ever.

Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.

I’m pretty sure that’s still available here.

So is Cookie Crisp cereal.

Mine is O’Grady Au Gratin potato chips. I loved them.

Jello pudding pops, and Pizzaria (sp) chips. I liked both of these as a kid, but who knows if I still would if they were brought back.

Zero candy bars. They’re still around, somewhere, just not around here.

We have those here in the east still. White chocolate with caramel and nuts and nougat. Yum!

My memories go back to two Mexican candies. One was like peanut brittle, but the candy part was pink and much softer. The other was a large coconut marshmallow stuck between pieces of graham crackers. (I know Arcotas make a very similar candy, but they have four small marshmallows instead of one big one, and it’s just not as good.) We have looked all around local Mexican stores, and even asked people going to Texas and Mexico, but we can’t find them.

Old time candy found here .

Koogle banana-flavored peanut butter!
