Back when I was a kid growing up in Tennessee, cold fried chicken was a standard picnic food. Just thinking about it gives me an urge for a grape Nehi and a GooGoo bar.
This might not fall into the “meant” to be served hot category, since its really an either or kinda thing… but i remember when i was a kid eating the hell out of some cold - straight from the fridge - kielbasa, and prefering it to the cooked version.
Corn on the cob and hamburgers are both delicious when they’re cold.
About the only thing I can think of might be carrots.
Vegetables in general are almost always better raw .
Agreed. Also, pizza. (Pizzaria pizza, anyway…the frozen kind aren’t improved by getting cold - though the best kinds aren’t hurt - and I’ve never had proper homemade pizza.)
Certainly when it comes to preserving the nutrients, yes. But as an element in a stew or casserole, they’re fine cooked.
And now I miss my mother’s beef stew.
True. One exception is mushrooms (although they’re not really vegetables anyway.)
Spiral ham. It’s good after it’s cooked. It’s better after it’s been in the fridge a day, and put cold on a sandwich.
Lasagne. Homemade, the next day, straight from the fridge. Again, the marriage of flavors. Dang, now I wish I had a reason to go through the three days from first making the sauce to eating the cold leftovers…
Tuna (albacore) noodle casserole with peas is fantastic cold.
McDonalds where I used to live would run 29 cent hamburger/39 cent cheeseburger specials on certain days (this is obviously some years ago). We’d get a sackful and eat them cold over the next few days. Not the greatest burger to start with, and they’d get a bit soggy, but we scarfed them down with pleasure.
I had ice cold corn on the cob today for lunch, leftover from dinner. Man it was good icy cold.
I like baked beans cold, as well.
…really… this thread just makes me realize how perfectly fine I am with cold food.

Suggested by the black people/fried chicken thread running in IMHO.
My first nomination is fried chicken, by the way. It’s MUCH better cold. Likewise sweet potato pie.
Anyone else?[/QUOTE
Chinese & Italian food
I thought I was okay with a fair amount of cold food, but reading this thread makes me realize I really do prefer most of it warm, if not hot.
About the only exception is a cold leftover turkey sandwich.
I guess I just like more foods with the flavor enhanced a lot, and heating them up adds more kick to smell and taste.
De gustibus non est disputandum.
Ditto minus the cheese.
Mmmm… congealed grease…
In all seriousness, I love cold pizza for that precise reason - the fats are solid, and melt in your mouth. Before you disappear to quietly vomit in a corner, let me point out that this is exactly the same reason that chocolate is so good.
Nut pies? Besides pecan? What have I been missing?
I keep my potato chips in the freezer. They’re much better cold. Try it.
