Does anybody else always order enough pizza delivered so there will be leftovers to eat cold for breakfast? I gotta say, cold pizza is one of my guilty pleasures, and if I discover a slice in the fridge on any given morning, I will nab it without regret.
I have always thought I should open a morning drive -thru coffee hut that specialized in cold pizza and joe. What else could be easier to eat while driving?
This may be a guy thing, so I would be interested to here if any of you women enjoy the Breakfast of Champions.
Even better, when I was a kid, my mom made pizza on Friday nights. The next morning, I would eat cold pizza while watching my Saturday morning cartoons. Home made beats out take-out any day of the week.
Of course, we didn’t have a microwave back then (late 1960’s). Now, I’d rather nuke my leftover pizza.
Reheated pizza is not good, as it becomes zombified. I know a guy who claims he holds the secrets of pizza necromancy, with which to revive a slice to nearly the same delicious state as when it first came forth from the oven, but I have my doubts.
When I got my first apartment I started having some friends come over for New Year’s Eve. Not a big party, just four guys playing cards and chatting, but we always sent out for pizza and of course there was always some left over. So for years my traditional New Year’s Day breakfast was always cold pizza.
I’ve found many pizzas can be baked in a toaster oven for just long enough to get them hot with good results. Now, I’m a fan of a crispy crust, so YMMV and all that.
Edited to add: Of course, I’m talking about reheating one or two slices at a time, mind you. And yes, I’m a fan of cold pizza. As a kid, I actually learned of how good it was through my sisters, if that answers the OP at all.
Pizza is the only food there is that I like as well cold as hot. In fact, usually cold leftovers squick me out…I always have to have my husband heat up the leftovers, because I can’t even look at them until it’s warmed up and looks like food again. But cold pizza I love…I never reheat…I agree with sturmhauke…reheating ruins it.
I thought I heard a news article explaining why cold pizza tastes better. I don’t remember what it was or when… but it doesn’t matter
Cold pizza needs you to eat it. Cause it’s wonderful and better than hot.
Oh, man, cold pizza is the food of the gods. The pizza place in my hometown makes a fabulous vegetarian pizza (I’m not vegetarian, but their meat pizzas suck), covered in green olives and tomatoes and mushrooms and other delicious things. It’s SO much better fresh from the fridge the next morning. The toppings are embedded in the solidified cheese so they don’t slide off, and the whole slice is much more sturdy. Plus, no risk of mouth scalding! I loves it… maybe my mother will consent to Thanksgiving pizza this weekend instead of the traditional turkey dinner.
I dunno. I used to like cold pizza, but since becoming an old fogey, and since the invention of the microwave oven, I insist on heating my pizza up. If it were all that good, I’d leave it cold.
I too, love cold pizza. It’s a treat waiting for me in the fridge. No cooking, reheating, opening of packages or anything. Just reach in and grab a slice.
I love how Queen signed (I’m assuming this because you’re still a guest FIX THAT!) to comment on cold pizza. That’s how wonderful it really is. I know that if SDMB gave away a cold pizza pie if you signed up, I’d make sock accounts all day long.
I know the feeling. I used to enjoy cold pizza, but as I’ve grown older, I’ve found my enjoyment from cold pizza has diminished, so much so that even lukewarm pizza doesn’t cut it. Give it to me molten, with the cheese that goes all over the place and that will burn your mouth if you’re not careful.
I love cold pizza too. However I have discovered if I heat up my cast iron frying pan in a 450 degree oven for about 20 minutes, then take it out, place the pizza slices in it, then place back in the oven for 5 or 6 minutes, what you get is even better than it was fresh. I like pan pizza myself though and I like the bottom to be a little crisp so this may not be for everyone. But the crust definitely holds up better than it did when it was fresh which I really like.
A coworker and I talked about this the other day and we reached the conclusion that cold and hot pizza are two totally different dishes, maybe not as far apart as sushi is from pot roast, but still different enough to fill separate functions.
Cold pizza, which is ambrosia, is breakfast food, whereas hot pizza is for lunch and any hour after that.
