Foods you freaking hate that lots of others freaking love

I concur with the cheese hate. We are not alone.

<musing>

I wonder if it would be possible to come up with a buffet menu that would be acceptable to everyone who posted on this thread… and what would be on it?

Plain toast? Saltine crackers?

I hate that combo, too. The texture of soggy pastry (or bread, if a sandwich is too gooped) trips my gag reflex.

Another downvote for licorice.

My husband claims that strawberries taste like solvent to him.

I take the opposite view. Like mayo, hate mustard.

I would say so. It’s like the difference between, say, a porter and a pale lager. They’re both beers, but liking one doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily like the other.

Also, the way I cook salmon (and tuna) is quite different than most other fishes. Typically, I eat them rare or raw, but most other fishes I cook through. They’re very different to me. Also, mackerel, herring, and sardines are in their own fish category separate from either of these.

I’m not such a fan of ginger. It tastes like Windex! I only use it in recipes that also have cinnamon and nutmeg, which tend to overpower the ginger flavor.

Also, mint. It tastes like toothpaste, which I don’t like, probably because it’s usually mint-flavored. I prefer the taste of mint to the taste of morning breath, but I still don’t like mint.

Raw onions.

Insane amounts of mayo without other flavors. People that drown their ham sandwiches with 150% of mayo weight perplex me. (small amounts are ok)

Love sushi, most white fish, most breaded fish, but sometimes I just cant handle some sort of baked fish that has no flavoring but the smell.

BTW, people that say they can’t deal with alcohol because of something other than ‘Im afraid to try it’ or ‘Beer is bitter and I only appreciate sweet things’ are in denial. Human beings are designed to process alcohol and there’s always some amount in our body due to the bacteria in our gut.

I like the taste, but oh boy they did not like me 30 minutes after eating them today. Three times.

Humans aren’t meant to enjoy bitter naturally. It screams “OMG poison!”. Beer is a learned taste, but it doesn’t take that much effort for most people. Alcohol itself is of course a natural craving in some populations.

I like both mayo and miracle whip …

lamb, veal and any other beige meat. Liverwurst. Greek olives…ick licorice…ick. As a kid I was very picky and wouldnt eat cheese unless it was on pizza or in mac and cheese, now I cant live without it. Pumpkin pie gross… most custard type desserts. I do not like the texture of hamburger in things like spagehetti sauce but will eat meatballs. Chicken on the bone, but will eat turkey.
Beer, coffee, wine (unless it is sweet and tastes like soda) and the worst is artificial flavored anything grape or watermelon like gum.
Heath bars. Oh and those choco covered jelly in boxes of chocolates…aaaaaaaaaa!

Shrimp. (Lobster is okay, but it’s not worth the effort it takes to get it out of the shell.)

Beer.

(retches at thought of Miracle Whip)

Very true-Campari (liquor) is insanely bitter-yet I have developed a liking for it.

Guacamole… or anything avocado.
Coconut
Squash
Fake meat (Vegetarian substitutes)
Cilantro
Tofu

Cilantro doesn’t taste like soap to me. It tastes like the smell of a sponge that has sat too long damp. And it makes my burp that smell for days after I eat it. So maybe I’m one of those people. I tried to get used to it because my sweetie wanted it on everything. I didn’t even like kissing him after he ate it. And that brings us to beer. I can’t stand the smell of it. I don’t care if it’s the fanciest beer out there, it has the underlying scent of sour unwashed skin, as does wine. Breads that are just starting to turn have that same sickly sweet sour smell to me.

Blueberries taste like some sort of chemical one should not be eating. And yes, I’ve had “good ones”. I’ve also had “good” fish but I still don’t like it unless it’s salmon and it better be fresh.

I only like instant coffee, and even that will be loaded with sugar. Brewed is vile, no matter how much sugar I add.

And I live in an entire household full of Southerners who won’t touch collard or mustard greens. We’ll eat spinach as long as it’s made with the cheese and egg.

It took my 25 years to try collard greens and when I did I never looked back!

Interesting read.

I’ll pretty much try anything at least once. I was pretty picky as a kid, especially with vegetables but i’ve learned to like a lot more foods.

With that said, mushrooms are pretty much a no go. If they are in my food in small chunks, that is alright but big chunks, no thanks.

Tomatoes. I don’t really love them. I’ll eat them on a sandwich but I don’t go seeking them out. I LOVE fried green tomatoes and pretty much any tomatoe based sauces/condiments.

I’ve never had oysters but I can’t imagine the texture would be great. Maybe someday…

Tofu (although I’ve never heard anyone say they love it).

I can’t stand curry powder (the stuff you buy at the grocery store). I don’t like cooked greens like spinach, collards etc and I like in the south it is ubiquitous.

I also don’t like sugar that much and down here people put it in everything including stuff that is already sweet like carrots and sweet potatos. Cornbread is ruined by sugar as is iced tea. I perfer my desserts to be light handed with the sugar as well.

I can only eat mayo on a very few amount of things like a BLT sandwich but if i get a big gob of it, I will be sick.

I love raw tomatoes but don’t care for cooked ones but raw tomatoes are my very favorite vegetable (fruit whatever)

For all you mayonnaise haters, Hellman’s has something new for you.

[sub]Actually, The Onion appears to have some sort of obsession with mayonnaise…[/sub]

I hate plain toast!
Seriously, you could lay out a dynamite spread just from the stuff people here hate.
