Is there, though? It’s obvious to me that recommendations for the general population, a week’s worth of antibiotics, dosages twice per day, are just top-of-the-head figures, not carefully researched for optimal benefits. Aside from making sure that deviating slightly from them won’t cause anyone to overdose, I can’t imagine that they haven’t figured out that a huge person can tolerate more antibiotics or Nyquil than a tiny person but they don’t bother because a standard dose/schedule is more convenient. I’m mainly interested in learning whether a shorter period has any significant downside to it.
None of us are doctors or pharmaceutical researchers, of course, so it’s starting to look like the answer may be “Who the hell knows?”
I think it’s more likely that you risk not having a high enough level of antibiotic for long enough, honestly. If you had an extra oil to pop at the end, is agree that it’s highly unlikely the slightly higher dose is dangerous. (Although perhaps it depends whether you are large or small, and how effective your liver is at clearing stuff.)
I’d be more likely to go the other way, personally. But I’m lazy, and would probably just follow the instructions.
You might look up the papers published when the drug was approved, and see what they say, though. That might offer some guidance.
IIRC @Treppenwitz and @susan were in various aspects of that industry and may be able to better calibrate that “Who knows?”
My own belief is that your idea to recover a few hours earlier will not work. It’s not founded on how recovery from a bacterial infection w antibiotics actually works.
