Football Question--Did it happen?

I’m saddened that today is Charlie Brown and Lucy’s last day not to mention Linus, Snoopy and the rest of the gang.

I may have missed the particular stip but did Lucy EVER let poor Charlie Brown kick that damn football?

Yes.

He pulled it right.

Nope, Charile Brown never did kick the ball. He did, however catch a TD pass in the SuperBowl.

Super Bowl XVII
Washington 27, Miami 17
January 30, 1983

Theismann rollout right, 6 pass to Charlie Brown, touchdown (1:55). Moseley kicked extra point.

Uncle Beer: I laughed so loudly at your funny response, my family had to call 911 where in the ER they gave me some IV valium to settle me down.

However, when I came to, after reading the two answers above, I’m still uncertain as to the correct answer to my question. All I want is the correct answer and a little detail. If it already has been given, someone tell me who gave it, please.

Charles Shultz was quoted as saying “It wouldn’t be funny if Lucy let Charlie Brown kick the ball.”

He stated wistfully on the Today Show this morning in an interview with Al Roker, “After I finished the last strip I realized he (Charlie Brown) never did kick that ball!”

So Virginia (and skeleton), there is a Santa Claus and Charlie Brown never kicked that damnable ball.

I remember one strip where Lucy had to let Charlie Brown kick the ball because she lost a bet or something. He missed the ball entirely and ended up spraining her finger. Does anyone else remeber that one?

Funny response? I am absolutely serious. Charlie Brown really did catch a TD pass in Superbowl XVII.

Did everyone miss the most recent football strip last fall? As Lucy was goading C.B. into kicking the ball Rerun told her she had to go in to eat lunch and took over for her. In the last panels Lucy asked what happened and he said “you’ll never know.” I saved the strip from the web site but it’s no longer there.

They don’t call me the colonel because I’m some dumb ass army guy.

“It wouldn’t be funny if Lucy let Charlie Brown kick the ball.”

Oh and him missing it every time was hilarious?

If I wanted smoke blown up my ass, I’d be at home with a pack of cigarettes and a short length of hose.

Maybe I’m just pro-underdog, but as his next to last or in the last few strips, Schultz should have let the poor bastard kick the football just once and let the sadistic Lucy have a streak of goodness. It is not funny to consistently let Charlie not kick the ball . On the otherhand Charlie must be a masochist year in and year out to actually believe that bitch would ever change. Or maybe he’s just an eternal optimist or as you are probably saying by now: Who really gives a shit!!

Chief, I appreciate your one thousandth, one hundred and thirteenth post. Your OK in my book at least today.

Hey, if Charles Shultz says it’s so, it must be so in the Peanuts world.

If he says CB never kicked the ball, Charlie never kicked the ball!!

I didn’t say it was funny. Shultz did. I’m not gonna criticize nor contridict Shultz… especially this week.

The whole comic strip itself was great all througout its life. I personally back him up on his idea to never let him kick the football. I’ve noticed some comic strips have ended their lives on notes that you wouldn’t expect. However, those notes never really gave closure to the strip at all. Trying to change something that’s always worked at the very end of its life is essentially pointless. I enjoyed the whole football-kicking situation, even though it did get very monotonous. Greatest regards to Charles Schultz and his dynasty.

The only difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.

Those who saw Schultz on Today, did you notice how palsied and disoriented he was? I hate to say it, but I think he made the right decision.

Remember, I’m pulling for you; we’re all in this together.
