Footwear at Home

Growing up in my dad’s house, we always wore shoes, all the time. No one was barefoot and no one had slippers.

After I got married, we put new carpet in our apartment. Since we didn’t want to mess up the carpet, we went barefoot all the time. We also made our guests take off their shoes when entering the house.

When we moved to PA. the cold winters made my feet so cold that I started wearing slippers, even in the summer now. Big,blue, fuzzy ones.

Why am I thinking of feet ?

Next week we’re having friends come up to visit. They live in another state, so I like to look nice, since we hardly ever see them. How weird would it be, for me to wear nice clothes with my fuzzy feet ?

I think it would seem pretty weird to have nice clothes and “fuzzy feet”. Perhaps you could invest in a better looking pair of slippers? I believe it’s Isotoner that makes slippers that are all satin-y looking; they cover your whole foot, have leather-like soles, and all-in-all look kinda like ballet slippers. These, IMHO, would look much better with clothes than fuzzy bedroom slippers.

Or you could get slipper socks. You know, those thick, warm socks with the non-slip tread on the sole. Or I could mail you a pair or five. I usually get at least one pair every year at Christmas, even though I never seem to wear the old ones out. Something about icy little paws, and keeping them to myself. I don’t know, I wasn’t paying much attention.

Around our house, barefoot vs. shod just wasn’t an issue. If you wanted to wear your shoes all day to gom around the house, you could (provided you weren’t tracking stuff around), but nobody wanted to. Hell, in the summertime, I didn’t even put on shoes to go outside half the time.

In my parent’s house, it’s just socks. Shoes are left at the door.

I used to do this, but once I moved my living room into the basement about 10 years ago, I went to slippers, then sandals (cold floors). Now, in my basementless townhouse, I still wear sandals. Have a pair just for around the house. And yeah, I wear socks with them.

In my house no one cares what you wear. My father wears slippers all the time, my brother goes barefoot, my sister wears socks or shoes, and I always wear shoes.
