Footwear at home

We have hardwood floors throughout the entire house, except the bathroom.
It’s a drafty, old house, and I like to wear slippers when I’m at home. I’m also diabetic, so I like to keep something on my feet, just to be on the safe side.

Kino’s at home, and about 25% of the time outside the house too.

Barefoot, the instant I’m home, every day of the year. I’ve even stepped outside in the snow briefly. My feet get cold, but to me they don’t feel cold.

I wouldn’t go out to check the mail barefoot in snow, but most every other time of the year I will venture outside barefoot to that distance. I spent every childhood summer outside barefoot.

My feet are too sweaty to run around barefoot (I’d leave little pools of sweat on our tile and wood floors). So I wear socks (to soak up the sweat) and either slippers or Crocs, depending on the season.

Barefoot in summer, socks or slippers in winter. Depending on the time of year, I have a pair of snow boots or Crocs by the back door in the mud room so I can slip something on to go out back and take care of dog poop.

I take my shoes off at other people’s houses usually (simply because I’m more comfortable shoeless) but don’t expect visitors to take theirs off here. Unless it’s really muddy outside.
The dogs can bring in a lot of mud when it’s wet, so the mudroom is baby-gated. When they come in they have to mill around a bit until their paws are clean.

Floors are either vinyl or wood with throw rugs, with the exception of the front/living room which is carpets. I’d prefer zero carpet, but it was going to be such a big job to rip up the old floor with layers of (probably) asbestos tiles in the front room, I installed carpet. I think carpet is unsanitary though, especially with dogs in the house. Ripping up that floor and replacing it with something practical is on my “to do” list.

Barefoot, unless my feet are cold, in which case slippers. If I’ve been out and am wearing sneakers, I may or may not take them off when I get home. (My current sneakers are very comfy.)

Barefoot, if at all possible. If weather, terrain, and social mores permitted I’d never wear shoes. If it’s really cold I might have to put socks on, but shoes in the house? Never!

Incidentally, this is one of the things that bugs me in irrational proportions about most TV shows – everybody is always wearing shoes in their own homes! Aaaargh!!!

It totally depends on the time of year.

Barefoot or sandals in the warm months

Barefoot, socks, slippers, socks and slippers in the cool months depending on how cool it it

Rarely do I keep my shoes on when I am at home, usually only if I am going out again soon

It depends on the time of year. Now, as it’s summer, I’m mostly barefoot around the house. I keep pairs of thongs or sandals at the front and back doors so that I can slip them on if I want to go out into the garden, walk to the shops etc. That will be the case through until about mid-April.

In the colder months (April-September) I always wear shoes and socks. By about October it’s usually warm enough to revert to bare feet.

I don’t expect anyone to remove their shoes on entering the house. That seems very weird to me.

Hardwood floors, no rules. Sometimes I take them off and walk around in my socks or bare feet, sometimes I put on slippers, sometimes I look down and realize I’m still wearing my shoes at 10 at night.

My house has a mix of carpet, laminate, and tile.

I go barefoot at home, unless I know that a shoe-worthy trip outside is imminent–and going to grab something to eat at a drive-through is not necessarily shoe-worthy, unless the weather is cold and/or wet. When I get home, the shoes come off and get left at the door.

Guests are welcome to shed their shoes or remain shod, as they prefer. I’m not fussy. My barefoot ways are for my comfort, and I want my guests to be comfortable, too.

Depends on… how cold it is. If it’s even remotely warm, my feet are bare. In cooler weather, socks. If it’s cold, slippers.

Depends on what I can get away with. Fall and spring I go barefoot. Winter I wear socks, sometimes 2 pairs when it gets below zero outside. Summer I wear socks if the air is on, barefoot if it’s off. Shoes are for walking on gravel or groveling to The Man.

Our only footwear rule is “no baseball spikes.” We have a lot of dogs, so the first thing we did when we moved in was rip out every scrap of carpeting in the house. (Everything but the kitchen and baths was carpeted, each room in a different color. The bedroom had black carpeting ). We have a porcelain tile living room and will soon be replacing the kitchen’s 1980s vinyl with the same porcelain tile. The upstairs is now all bamboo.

We used to wear socks only in the house. But it only takes one time of breaking your little toe to cure you of that stupid rule. I have house shoes (Topsiders) and never walk around inside without them on. That damn toe still hurts after ten years.

It depends on whether I’ve already been outside that day; I generally leave my shoes on when I come in. Otherwise, barefoot when it’s warm enough, socks or slippers (or slipper socks) when it isn’t. I have ancient brown shag carpets and the worst linoleum, so I don’t care if anyone else wears shoes in my apartment.

Usually slippers unless I’m too hot. So it goes something like:
slippers on…WHEW hot flash!!!
slippers off…return to normal BRRRRR, I’m freezing.
Slippers on…OMG, I’m melting!
Slippers off

And so on

Barefoot all the time. We are tile in the bathrooms and kitchen and carpet everywhere else. My husband is ears his shoes all the time. That would drive me crazy.

No rules but for me: barefoot when possible, slippers or socks if it’s cold.

I’m barefoot most of the time, year-round, unless I’m having a long cooking day (makes my feet hurt). Then I wear whatever shoes are closest at hand.
No house rules about footwear…I have (ugly) carpet and vinyl in the kitchen. With dogs, cats, and kids, I’m not remotely concerned about trying to keep the carpet in decent condition. I’m considering ripping it up and painting a cool faux-tile design on the cement underneath (seen Tangled? Like the floor in the tower room…) That would be fun and it’d work until I decide to get new carpet anyway.

Now that I have wooden floors I need slippers or at least socks in the winter. Guests have no rules re footwear.
