Aye, you are right in that it is pretty unlikely. I don’t know though… I just think that they are the worst of the four teams (even with the gaping holes in the Boston and New York pitching staffs), and these things have a way of working themselves out.
It doesn’t help that the Yankees/Sox series means that one of the two will automatically have at least a couple of losses in the last stretch, though.
I tend to agree, i general. I think that the White Sox will make the playoffs, but will then lose pretty convincingly in the divisional series.
True, but that is balanced by the fact that Chicago and Cleveland also finish the season with a three-game set. The last weekend will a pretty interesting three days.
It was a fun game. I was up in Right field Tier but right on the railing. We had a silly drunk Red Sox fan that got tossed by the cops after he picked a fight with a stupid dumb drunk Yankee Fan. (Did I mention we were playing Baltimore)?
Before the tossing there were 15 minute chants of Boston Sucks and Take off the Hat (referring to the Red Sox hat).
Moose looked great; game was cruising along, some bad fielding by both teams including the beloved Captain and Tino.
Lawton was serenaded by calls to Retire and we want Bubba.
Posada had 2 big homers for 4 RBI’s.
Lieter pitched an amazing inning using only 13 pitches, what he normally needs for 1 out. Then Joe tried to extend him and suddenly a laugher turned back into a game.
Gordon got a good Save throw High Heat on a night when Mo wasn’t allowed to pitch.
We are now 1 full game up with exactly 10 games to play. Pennant race fever!!!
To make fun of the Boston fans here at the office, I created a Project Plan plotting the Yankees path to the post-season and the Red Sox path to the golf course in October. I just hope the White Sox hold up their end of the bargain.
Indications are he wants to stay a Yankee.
My WAG is he will sign a new 3 year deal for $13M per.
I also would like Bernie to come back as the 4th outfielder/DH /switchhitter of the Bench/Elder Statesman who needs to finish career in pinstripes (but should not be the everyday CF anymore) at up to $5m for a 1 year contract.
They’re fun, they’re young, they’re exciting. They would be much scarier in the post season than the WhiteSox and you have a better manager. (Also coolest/funniest player name: Coco Crisp)
My Personal hope is
Indians take Central
A’s take West (Angels are a bad match up for Yanks)
Yanks take East sweeping Boston out of Wildcard.
Whitesox back into wildcard. This puts Yanks vs. Whitesox & Indians vs. A’s in first round.
Well, i don’t know whether they’re America’s team or not, but they are certainly my team from here on, given that the Orioles will once against be playing golf in October. I just want to know where Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn is.
The Yankees get yet another one-run victory over the hapless Birds last night. This might be good enough to get them to the postseason, but they’ll need to pick up their game considerably if they want to go further than the divisional series.
Funny how a couple years ago when we traded Colon they were hardly Cleveland’s team. They were uhm…My team, and my brother’s team, and i think my friend Cathy’s team. That was about it lol
I’ve been an Indians fan through much worse than the Colon trade. I don’t really remember much about them from before the middle 80s, but my father and I would make the trek to Cleveland a couple of times a year long before that.
This team is a lot of fun. I like all of the players with the possible exception of Bob Wickman. I especially like how no one player is essential but all contribute.
And Ronnie has cool hair.
But I’m disappointed in the fans in Cleveland. Where the hell are they?
I’m not sure i’d go quite this far. Yes, Cleveland is a real TEAM, where everyone does contribute to the cause.
But i think that Travis Hafner is, and has been, absolutely essential to this team. He’s hitting .308 with 31 home runs and 104RBIs, combining power and consistency. Not only that, but over the team’s great run in August and September his hits have often come at crucial times, helping the Indians to victory in games they could have lost. And he has 6 home runs and 16 RBIs in his last 5 games.
And before that, he was slumping a bit but they were still winning. And at least a couple of those HRs were tacking runs on instead of being the difference in the game.
Just in the last couple of weeks there have been games when Broussard, Boone, Belliard (especially the play when he hurt his side), and Blake were the heroes. Victor has the best batting average in baseball since the All-Star break, but the winning ways started before the break.
Granted, I think the team went about .500 when Hafner was gone, and there haven’t been many other injuries to test them. Belliard’s absence didn’t seem to hurt them against KC recently.
Don’t get me wrong. I love watching the pride of North Dakota slugging away, and I don’t think they would be as good without him. But I also don’t think he would have been lost like the '95 Mariners sans Griffey, or the 2005 Giants without Bonds. Or heck, even the 2005 White Sox without Podsednik.
As long as we’ve moved a little off subject and it was my op anyway.
Where does everyone think Lou Pinella will end up next year?
Managing which teams, or broadcasting.
Also, anybody read about Raffy the **Rat ** & Cheat. He apparently decided to drag Miggy down into the steroids debacle with him. It looks like falsely too.
Bonds is a cheat & obnoxious, but at least he isn’t dragging anyone else down.
Giambi wasa cheat but he basically owned up for and mostly asked forgiveness at least.
Raffy is setting new lows and should probably be demoted from HOF candidate to grade A dirtbag!!!.
The Bartolo Colon trade was one of the best things to ever happen to the Cleveland Indians. They got Cliff Lee and Grazy Sizemore in that trade.
Attendance boosts due to winning often happen the year AFTER a team wins unexpectedly.
Remember, too, that Cleveland’s done all this in the second half of the season, long after the point where people can buy season tickets or multi-game packages, or even plan trips to see the team. If they go far, watch attendance rocket upwards in 2006.
The Red Sox have no business crying poverty! They spend more on players than any team but the Yankees. And while Red Sox fans noiw treat Alex Rodriguez as the anti-Christ, they were DYING to have him on theirr team just a few years ago.
The Red Sox are a team of high-priced free agents and mercenaries, just like the Yankees. Don’t kid yourself that they’re anything else.
