For adults, three languages, two chairs and one apartment

While waiting for our baby, my mother and my wife’s sister have come to stay with us. We just moved into our new apartment, so we only have the old table and two chairs. We bought a folding chair and are using a camping chair for the meantime.

The sister only speaks Chinese, with a few words of English and Japanese. My mother only speaks English, with no Japanese or Chinese.

I speak Japanese and English and no Chinese. TokyoWife speaks Chinese and Japanese, and only a little English. So, not more than two of us can have a conversation at one time, and not many of us can talk without translation. :stuck_out_tongue:

WOW! That kid is either going to be very fortunate, or very confused, I’m not sure which.

Four :smack: adults. My mother will only be here for the first while. The rest of us will hang out for a while.

If it wasn’t for the saddness of your son’s medical condition, I’d say this is comedy gold! Perfect sitcom situation - has there been any major miscommunications yet? No one calling someone else a malaria-infested chicken weasel by accident? No one accidentally getting engaged (or saying the three magic words that “in some cultures” means you’re married to one another?) Have any of the chairs broken yet?

You know, it’s great that you have all of this family support during these tough times. It’s also great that you can find the humour in life… whatever happens, your son will have been lucky to be a part of you and your family.

Next time someone gets up to go to the washroom, hide their chair. Hilarity ensues!
