For Air Force People and Ghost Hunters

First off, let me begin by saying that I have always been equally deathly afraid and intrigued by the possible existance of ghosts. With that said, I’ll cut to the chase. I’m a member of the US Air Force and am stationed at Hill Air Force Base, UT. For the two years, I have been stationed here, I’ve been assigned to a gym on base where i do maintenance on work out machines and the building. Some mornings, im scheduled to open the gym at 430 in the morning. When i make my rounds in this large building, in order to turn on the lights, ive felt a certain presence in some spots of the rooms. It’s kind of like the feeling that someone is watching you. Anyways, I’ve also been in this building while it was closed at night and heard noise coming from the basketball court. It usually sounds like the echo of a ball bouncing. I’ve also heard the sound of lockers slamming in the men’s locker room when nobody is in there. It’s the sound of a metal locker closing. Needless to say, we replaced the metal lockers about a year and a half ago with plastic ones. Security cameras have been placed in the building several months ago. A co-worker of mine told me he was alone in the building at night, while in the office that has the monitor for all the cameras. He told me that he saw a white figure moving back and forth across the basketball court floor. The question i have is are there any military people ever stationed at Hill Air Force Base that have heard of a death occuring in the base gym or the possibility of it being haunted? If not, then how would i be able to access those records? Does anybody know anything about recording ghosts with audio or video?

[hijack] YEAH! HAFB. I was stationed there for 2 years in the late 90’s. I was in CE. I loved that damn base. Its like the best hidden assignment in the USAF IMHO. Hot chicks everywhere downtown because the mormons want to take over the world.

You may have slept with my ex-girlfriend Brooke, everyone else did apparently. She worked at the base cleaners. Real piece of work she was.

If you run into a weapons guy who looks like a skinyn simoan named SSgt Atkins tell him Slush said WHATUP!![/hijack]

I remember reading about James Hydrick - the famous ‘psychic’ debunked by Randi.

Hydrick would get his students to lie on the floor of a metal-skinned building at a certain time of day when he knew that sunlight was starting to warm up the building, then he would tell them to concentrate on the building and try to twist it, sure enough it would start to crack and pop at the seams; the effect was so great as to cause punchbags to swing on their ropes.

Of course the same thing happens to the building in reverse as it cools down at night.

Please describe the construction of your gym building.

Which “gym” is it? There are two. The Hess Fitness Center, Building 520, seems to be the main workout facility/gym, looks like it’s brick outside.

Inside images. Lots of expensive equipment.

The other fitness center is the West Side Fitness Center, in Building 1277, sharing space with the Health and Wellness Center. I can’t find any pix of it offhand, but I’m betting it’s more of an office building, with doctor’s offices. Can’t tell whether it has locker rooms or not, but I doubt it.

So, I’m going to assume that we’re talking about the main fitness center.

I don’t see why you have to have ghosts to explain your noises. Somebody’s in the building before it’s officially open, is all, somebody’s out there shooting baskets. No big deal.

And, needless to say, a Google search for “hess fitness center ghost” turned up absolutely nothing. If the Hess Fitness Center is haunted, you’re the first one to notice it.

I TOLD you I didn’t know dude.

but, im the only one in the gym when i can sometimes hear the noises from the b-ball court. I know this because i have the doors locked for 20 minutes before the gym officially opens. it usually sounds like more of an echo of a ball. you can’t hear the initial smack of rubber on wood. still nobody knows where i might be able to find out if anyone died in the hess fitness center?

Buildings often make noises on their own, even without ghosts present.

**Well, sheesh, dude, you’re right on top of it–literally. Why ask us? Go ask around. If nothing else, fill out a FOIA form.

And, er, Joe?

**No such thing, dude, 'kay?

And if you don’t believe me, here’s the Skeptic’s Dictionary. Read all the links. Go to the library and check out Carl Sagan’s Demon-Haunted World.

Trust me, no ghosts are shooting baskets at 4 a.m. in the Fitness Center.
