For all the cord cutters and OTA folks

Today is a major rescan day. Lots of channels are changing their frequency. If you use an OTA antenna you must rescan your TV.

I post this because I have a TIVO and they have already screwed up my Thursday night recordings because of this. The guide they have has 2 channels for the one i want to record. The one i have set up doesn’t work. I have to manually record it.

Thank all you streamers for screwing up my tv.

I mean, I don’t know. Isn’t all about the band with and the FCC assigning it to the cell phone companies…

Important reminder:

  1. There is not one rescan day even for a given market. My market has had 3 notable ones so far with more to come. None of them are yesterday.

  2. Rescan days for different markets are all over the place.

Check here for more info on where you live.

While it is important that OTA people are made aware of these changes, a more general caution is a good idea.

I mostly use OTA to watch football, so I had great difficulty at the start of the season because I couldn’t get the channels.

Now I know why, most of my local stations had their rescan days this past August.

Good thing to know, if I have problems in the future, I should rescan before throwing the remote through the TV screen.

I know there’s a big rescan in Chicago this week, because my son expects he still won’t be able to get CBS-2 over the air, and never will until his landlord lets him put an antenna on the roof.

I had to rescan today to get CBS and FOX. They seem to be stronger than they were. Fortunately I remembered to also rescan my OTA DVR. Just three more lesser used TV’s to go.

CBS-2 is available on two channels in Chicago: 2-1 and 48-3.

Unfortunately, 2-1 is not changing during the big rescan – it’s still on RF 12.
Channel 48-3 is moving however. Tell him to check 48-3 to see if he gets CBS-2 there.

No 48s at all here by O’Hare. 2-1 is good, ol’ CBS, 2-2 is Start TV and 2-3 is Dabl, same as yesterday. 68-1 is a very poor CBS signal. 67-1 is a very poor CBS Sports. Is that the CBS -2 you are looking for?

I don’t know what you are pulling in on 67-1 or 68-1.

CBS2 really is on 48-3.

Had to re-scan my TV yesterday (greater Chicago area). Only have the one, and it only took a few minutes. Probably the most minor annoyance of my day.

Not on my TV, but it’s just one more example of the ways this place sucks. If I could stand and walk over to hook up my own OTA box I could get out of here. Instead I’m stuck. They probably fucked it up when they injected an ad for this dump on 42-1.

And does the world really need three channels playing MeTV?

Oh, and what is the difference between CBS-1 and CBS-2?

WBBM’s virtual channel number is 2, the number they use to identify themselves on air.

Yeah, I just figured it out. Analog name for their analog audience.

Thanks! I get TV again. I was wondering about that.
