There is an ongoing process in these United States of squeezing over-the-air (OTA) TV stations closer together to free up spectrum space for cell phone and wireless internet use. Originally a major shift was scheduled for September 6th, dubbed “TV Rescan Day”, with about half of the TV stations moving to new transmitting frequencies. (For continuity, the channel number displayed on converter boxes and TVs will remain the same, it is just the “behind the scenes” transmission channel that is changing. Also, this has no impact on people with cable or satellite TV).
For awhile numerous TV stations have been telling their OTA viewers to be sure to rescan on September 6, 2019. I have been counting the days until the changeover with unhealthy anticipation, to the degree that I’ve wondered why this hasn’t been made a national holiday. But alas!–stupid Hurricane Dorian has butted in, and the new rescan date is now September 11, 2019. I will be sulking until then…
While Sept. 6 is a popular date for the channel shifts, it’s not the same for everyone.
Plug in your zip code here to find out more for your area.
Mine lists several channels as having a range from August 3rd to Sept. 6. So you might have to rescan several times in that period.
Note: You only have to do this for a TV or other device that has an antenna as a source. (I need to do this for one of my TiVos* and another tuner box hooked up to my NextPVR system.)
And teetering TiVo is having trouble revising its schedules to reflect these updates.
I really hope that after the rescan day, whenever it is (the affected channels here in Charlotte were still saying Sept. 6 as of last night), that Spectrum finally shows us the channels we’ve been missing for a while.
