For all the English Dopers out there

There were St George’s Cross flags all over Oxford yesterday.

Being clueless, my first thought was "I didn’t even know England were playing … "

Welcome to the SDMB, monk-feeeesh.

Sadly, I was of a similar mind set as Steve Wright - we had bunting all over the local pub, but my first thought it was, that it was for the Man Untd. game…oops.

You are Anne from the Famous Five and I claim my £5.

I would have put me flag out, but I was busy writing about titration calculations in GCSE chemistry.

Keep wanting to say “Well, bunt me!”
Hope urge goes away soon.

Well us here Down Under celebrated by winning a Test match…

Good Ol’ George is also patron saint of:

Boy Scouts
Chivalry
Archers
Farmers
Plague
Herpes
Syphilis
Skin Diseases.

All of which in my opinion make him very English.

(he’s also one of the patron saints of Germany, Canada and Portugal)

Yeah, bunch of disease-ridden, schnapps drinkin’, sheep shaggin’, door openin’, bob-a-jobbin’ bastards.

[SUB]I’ve never had schnapps[/sub]

Gah, I just got that. Archers Peach Schnapps.

Please hit yourself in the testicles with a sledge hammer.

Please allow me to tell you why I love these threads.

I know you guys are speaking English, because I recognize all of the words.

I still have no idea what you’re talking about.

Thanks Twisty

Except that in reality it is not St Georges day at all.

The C of E decreed long ago that if St Georges day were to fall in the same week as the Easter festival then St Georges day would be moved on to the next most suitable date.

That happens to be next Monday.

[sub]Exgineer, that’s the beauty of it. They don’t know what they’re saying either.

Just join in, you’ll see they’ll buy it![/sub]

Tally hoe, chaps! Bottoms up for yer man George!
In-gur-luuuund In-gur-luuund In-gur-luuuuuuuuund…

ahhhhhhh but what about us catholics eh?
