Thanks for that, Twisty. As you can imagine I have it circled on my calendar and look forward to the annual ticker tape parades, fife ‘n’ drum bands, firework displays and fly-past by Concorde.
Actually, nothing seems to have happened. Again.
God bless the queen, rat tat tat boom and all that.
Y’know, this year I don’t think I’ve seen any news presenters wearing red roses.
Kal - Who lives in a country where St. George’s day is normally celebrated by the local news programme running a feature about people not knowing that it is St. George’s day.
When I said nothing happened, of course, there was a BNP march the other day (which is always nice to see ).
Oh and I did spot that other thread – congrats Kal, you and Will Shakespeare eh? Very classy.
Yeah, the BNP marched on the 10th aniversary of Steve Laurences murder. Classy people.
guess i was lucky then - my local had a little St George’s day celebration (which was nice).
Isn’t that supposed to go something like
"…and then I was having a little scout round in the potting shed and I found an old lance, which as it turned out was the actual lance St. George used to slay the Dragon
which was nice"
Saint George day? Is this the day where you celebrate Hugh Laurie in Blackadder III?
Huh? who? where?
That’s it. And all we chaps wear especially magnificent trousers to impress the girls.
Can I get out the bunting ? I do love bunting, especially around the eaves of village halls.
Bunting ! Bunting ! Bunting !
… I suddenly feel like buying bicycle clips and riding a bike with a wicker basket on the front, and a dinky bell to ring …
Ahh, well, I shall stand with my legs wide apart and roar for my friends across the pond.
Woof!
looking up from his copy of King & Country
God - its like Crufts in here.
Cheers mate! Not often an Irishman will wish that to an Englishman.
And don’tchaknow I didn’t even know it was St. George’s day yesterday until I read this thread.
Now pass me a pork pie while I sit on the green and watch the second eleven get trounced.
The English! No pride in their heritage
Anyone going Morris Dancing to celebrate?
Do not. mock. the Morris.
You might get a pig’s bladder upside the head.

Hey ho the noddy oh

Can’t say I noticed St George’s Day. It seems sad that there is a general opinion that us English can’t be trusted with patriotism; that it always boils over into racism and holiganism, especially when mixed with alcohol.
Would have been nice to have a day off work…
