And like magic the OP vanished…
Major posting glitch! (Not my fault.)
Gibberty Rules. Swithin’s canonical.
Bassingtons and Stirrups permitted.
Game 1.
Ianzin: Seven Sisters.
The Rest:
As per my usual starting move, I declare Elephant and Castle.
I’m going to jump in at the beginning with a looping Bank, to preclude Ansbaker’s Jumping. Please remember that the Circle Line is wild.
Ianzin: Seven Sisters.
The Rest: Elephant & Castle
Ianzin: Latimer Road!
The Rest:
What am I, chopped Edgware?
Sorry, Fran, but Twisty posted first, that’s all. Is Edgware your response? (Hint: Edgware Road is v. close to Warwick Avenue… think carefully!)
We will go with Edgware, but we may declare stirrups on the next move, depennding on if we have a zone 3 station to use…
Parliament is in session, therefore the next move must be Mansion House. With Clapham left wide, anyone can follow with a Corginsky-approved move.
Ianzin, are you the Official Documentor?
I am having major connection snafus right now! And this at a time when the server isn’t over-burdened. This game could take a long time.
Ianzin: Seven Sisters.
The Rest: Elephant & Castle
Ianzin: Latimer Road!
The Rest: Edgware Road
Ianzin: Bassingtons declared. Chancery Lane.
The Rest:
Let’s see if I still remember how to play this game … it’s been several years and I’ve not used the London Underground … well … ever;)
New Carrolton seems as good a go as any, given the temperature right now.
Warning: ianzin is some kind of zen master at this game. I got lucky… once. He’ll be looking for that next time and I don’t have much else up my sleeve.
Nevertheless, if I remember my “Modern Mornington Crescent Openings XII” (Paisley & Dunfritt, 1999), the correct follow to Chancery Lane (under these circumstances and remembering that next week is a bank holiday) should be Kings Cross with quibbles.
pan
Kings Cross maybe, but it being a Jubilee year it might leave the path right open for a bifurication within 2 or 3 moves.
Then again, it might be an idea to stay away from Charing cross.
/me goes to the loo and misses the game.
I have to say Twist, King’s Cross seems to me a masterly move under the circumstances (you’ve got to remember it’s a double bank holiday. The only alternative I’d consider would be Liverpool Street (although it is also a mainline station, does that make a difference, has anyone the rules handy?).
Sorry, just imagine I’d closed those brackets I so recklessly opened, would you, please?
An excellent choice of move under Harris but with Gibberty Rules I think it could leave us in trouble because not only is Liverpool Street a mainline station but Bassingtons has been declared.
That ianzin is a clever bugger you see and would no doubt just use Tamkin to get to Wapping in two and then (through a diagonal Karpov shunt, the full moon not withstanding) gain Barking, which of course being a rail interchange station would bring most of zone 3 under his control!
I’m with Twisty here, Kings Cross looks good, I think we need to keep ianzin on the back foot and play aggressively (and if at all possible restrict him to the south of the river and, at a pinch, the northern line).
I’d be wary of even letting him onto the Northern line ( I have reasons to want to go to Barnet, but they have nothing to do with Mornington Cresent ;)). I would take it, but as we are already in bassingdons, and it being a double bank holiday as well…
I shall be bold and say…
Cockfosters.
I love this game.
I just don’t happen to understand it.
It would help immensely, if someone could explain how to work the closed British Museum stop into this game, I think that I’d finally really understand what was happening.
Cheers!
Alas, Robb, if we were able to make the British Museum tube station viable, it wouldn’t be closed.
It’s a pity. The British Museum was once part of a great move used by Navarov in the '66 championship quarters against Elksop. He used it as part of a move against a bifurication of waterloo and Chalk farm, thus creating the first ever reverse stirrup. A truely brilliant move, rendered useless in Giberty’s Modern rules.
I think there should be an uprising to have the contrversial St. Swithins Deathbed Cannonical declared as the one true version, and all copies of the King Sid James redux destroyed by righteous fire.
