Well, in one of the more obvious set-up Elizabeth is about to go on the road with her BMW motorcycle.
So, will she be killed?

I doubt she’ll be killed off, but I could see her being seriously injured. They have shown her taking a safety course, but I think she’ll get broadsided by a drunk driver and end up in a coma for months. Maybe paralyzed?
Or maybe she’ll take someone for a ride and they’ll both be hurt? Or that other person will be killed and she’ll have to deal with the guilt?
It’s definitely a set-up for something big.
Maybe it’ll work out okay - she could see Kourtney on the side of the road and run her down!
Possibilities for High Drama ™ aside, I hope this isn’t a setup for something big. As a motorcyclist (a female motorcyclist, even! a female sportbike rider (GSX-R1000) even!), I get really tired of every time a motorcycle turns up in popular entertainment as more than just a background character, it’s setting somebody up for The Big Accident, followed by either The Big Dirt Nap or The Tearful Vow Never To Ride Again. ::sigh::. Yes, motorcycles are dangerous. You have to respect them, learn the basics, ride them properly (with proper gear) and act as if everybody on the road (a) can’t see you and (b) wants to kill you. However, plenty of people ride many miles every day without accidents. I hope Liz is one of them. It looks like she’s got a good teacher, she’s wearing the gear, and she’s got sufficient respect for the machine. Leave her alone, Lynn! Let her enjoy it!
Have to agree that I hope it is NOT a setup. Way too obvious and trite if it is.
I’m with RikWriter and winterhawk. I really hope this isn’t a buildup to A Very Special Story Arc. Maybe it’ll all end with Liz having to take her mom for a ride somewhere – maybe if she goes real fast and takes the turns real sharp it’ll knock the stick out of Ellie’s ass. Ellie way overreacted – Liz is, what, 21 now?
I doubt it’s a set up for an accident. The strip has (over?) emphasized how safe motorcycles are with the proper training, and shows Gordo teaching Elizabeth the basics, etc. and makes her mother out to be hysterical in her objections. I doubt Johnston would do all that just to show Elizabeth spin out and make Gordo look like an idiot.
According to the official site, Liz is twenty-three.
Is it just me, or does anybody else get irritated when Lynn Johnston starts an interesting plotline and then abandons it when it’s getting really good?
She did that with the “Kourtney gets fired and possibly sues Ellie” plotline and she just did it with the little Plastic Man Weed gave to his girlfriend (and Mike is irritated by that). The last one had his girlfriend say, “I love it!”. I wanted to see if Mike and Weed have a falling out.
If anyone is to be hurt, I’d put money on April. Maybe Liz will take her on an unauthorized ride or she’ll stupidly take the bike on a joyride.
Isn’t the strip supposed to end in the next 2-3 years?
Yes, around the time starts high school. I don’t remember if it’s supposed run long enough for her to graduate.
I hate when that happens. I was referring to April, of course.
She’s going to have a leg amputated, and we’ll finally see what she looks like without her football helmet.
You are obviously not a regular reader of the strip. You could see Farley’s death coming six months out.
But who says “Son of a bitch!” April? Elly? Farley? oh wait…
You obviously didn’t read what I wrote. I didn’t say “It’s definitely not a setup” or “She wouldn’t do this.” I said I HOPE it’s not a setup because it would be too trite.
And I’m saying “trite” practically defines the strip.
I think we’re getting set up for Ellie falling in love with motorcycling, and keeping the bike when Liz goes back north. But then again, I thought that something the least bit interesting would happen with Kourtney.
And I bet Garfield will squash a spider with a rolled-up newspaper.
Heck, I thought Elizabeth having the hots for a helicopter pilot was a bad omen…
Can you say “Lesbian Biker Chicks?”
Maybe we’ll get The Patterson Family Circus - a Sunday strip with an aeriel view of their town with a dotted line showing all the places Liz drove her motorcycle.
Sheesh, I thought something had already happened, like someone had received the morning newspaper the night before and didn’t use a spoiler box.
