For David B, the good Doctor and others who are knowledgable about Creation debate

How 'bout making the kids do it.

Some minister down here is promoting something called “Ten Commandments Day.”

Basically it entails of having school aged children (from Kindergardeners up to High School Seniors) wear shirts with the Commandments on it and presenting a plaque of the commandments to their teachers and principal requesting them to post it in their classrooms and office.

I’d have more information, but it was on the WUSA-TV four o’clock news which I missed, where this minister was debating somebody (probably from the Separation of Church and State foundation).

The only part which I remember was when the Separation guy asked whether or not he’d support the posting of the tenents of Budha, or Wicca, the minister guy said, “well, the fact is our country was founded on Christian Values” so bugger off.

I’ll try to find more information.

Well, not all of the Christian faithful.

According to Revelation 7:4, only 144,000 Christians are going to be Raptured. And Revelation 14:4 says that all of them will be virgin males.

Well, that disqualifies me and Jerry Falwell.

Wow, well i guess all of those preachers on TV are going to have to slug it out with the rest of us “unchosen”. Oh and don’t jehova’s witnesses believe that their ilk will be the 144,000?

The way I’ve heard it interpreted; the 144,000 are Jews, and they are singled out to be witnesses during the tribulation, after the Rapture. So don’t worry. Maybe 1 of them is Howard Stern!

That’s gonna be a little difficult, since, according to the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ own website, http://www.watchtower.org/statistics/worldwide_report.htm , there were 5.8 million Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide in 1998.

I can’t believe I disregarded my own advice, and have posted on two short threads on the leftbehind site.

Today, I mentioned that Biblical inerrancy is a man-made concept (true), hence not deserving of any particular respect. So far, not a whole lot of response, but the post hasn’t been there long. We’ll see what happens.

What topic did you post under, RTF?

jab1:

I’m really curious to see a reference for this. I don’t disbelieve you, I’m just very interested in seeing if it’s really true.

RTFirefly:

Please put direct links here to the threads you posted. It’s a lot to weed through, and I - since I feel somewhat responsible for your actions - would like to monitor it from afar. I’m sure others would as well…

I don’t mean to make fun of anybody, I really don’t. But Rapture and Pets?

To TheDude: Simply click on this link to The Gallup Poll: www.gallup.com/poll/releases/pr990830.asp The very first paragraph reads, in part:

Fighting my own ignorance since 1957.

Oh, one other thing: The murder rate in Japan and Western Europe is much lower than ours. Is it because they post the Ten Commandments in their schools or is it something else?

Fighting my own ignorance since 1957.

Why not, manhattan?
I think my cats have a better chance of making it to heaven than I do.

Armed, dangerous…
and off my medication.

Both Bush and Gore said something about teaching creationism in the school. Gore’s spokesperson then did a quick backpedal and said that he meant teaching it in a comparitive religion course or something like that. Bush didn’t backpedal.

Satan, Andros - sorry about that. Pick the topic, “Biblical errors?” under the link I gave above. I’m posting as ‘nightmare’, but you’d have figured that out on your own. It’s near the top - I’ve started to get some (weak) responses.

I also posted on a thread ‘This used to be Family Television’ or some such, a few days ago, but that topic seems to have gone dormant.

P.S. Don’t worry, Brian, I’m being well-behaved. Fundamentalists are people too, after all, and deserve to be treated as such - even if they don’t always take that attitude towards those they have no use for.

manhattan - the ‘Rapture and Pets’ thread is high comedy: “One question, Have your dogs and cats realized they are sinners and asked jesus to forgive them and come into thier hearts?” I love it. Or, “Dogs will go - cats won’t.”

Of course, cats wouldn’t need to be raptured; they’re already divine. Like the dolphins in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, they can arrange their own escape from the destruction of the Earth, whatever form it takes.

David:

To finally answer your question about “what the hell brought me to that board,” someone who came here from that board!

If you look for the “Aphids” thread in Comments on Celcil’s Columns started by one Kat2, as well as at the end of my infamous “You’re NOT a good Christian…” thread, you will see the details…

Not only that, but the very very first sentence posted in that thread was:

“I am sure this question has come up a thousand times…”

The scary thing, tracer, is that it probably has!

RTFirefly: Velikovsky? Velikovsky? You are so going to hell. Let me know when you get there; I’ll buy you a beer.
