Yes! I am a Christian who loves Jesus, because He first loved me. Yes I am a “fundie” and yes I believe that the only way to pass from this life without going to an everlasting hell is to have Jesus Christ as my Savior. He tells us that He is the truth and the life and the only way to the Father is through Him (John 14:6). I believe the Bible to be whole and true, and yes that means I believ not only in Creation, but a literal 6-day creation.

Yes, my God is a loving God. He loved each one of us - any one of you caring enough to read this - enough to send His one and only Son to live and die on this earth to take away our sins. All He asks is that we accept Him and his free gift.

But my God is also a jealous God. His name is Jealous and He demands that He be the only God to be worshipped as Lord (Exodus 34:14) He is a vengeful God who has and who will take vengeance on those who refuse to follow Him.

Enough for the time being on my beliefs. You degrade others for sharing the love of Jesus with you. You say you want debate. well, debate! I’ve been honest with you on my beliefs, debate them if you wish.

I think it funny that there are those here who are calling Christians hypocrites for not offering their email addresses. Mine is there, though I don’t know what purpose it would have since this is an open forum. But back to being hypocritical… I think it ironic that there are those on this board under one name who spout things almost completely opposite as what they posted at LBMB. I’m sure it was so that they could sneak in under a cloak of somewhat interest to what was being discussed there. But they would come across as being a long time believer, albeit with some non-fundamental views of Christianity and profess to want to have honest debate. Then over hear, they are are doing nothing but snickering at what those “ignorant” Christians were saying over there. And when the heat gets too hot for them, they say say something to the effect of “I don’t need this, I have too much else going on in my life to waste my time here. I have grad school and this and that…” only to find out they are spending their time here. I find that extremely hypocritical.

Here I am. You get what you see. I’m a fundamental Christian who loves the Lord with all my heart and who desires Him to to have control over my life as Lord of it.

Well good for you. You want debate, I’ll give you some:

  1. How do you get around all the parts of the Bible that are really insane (like stoning people to death for planting the wrong crops)?

  2. How do you get around the fact that there’s a lot of good evidence for evolution?

  3. How do you get around the fact that there are about 30 other major religions that have equally good credentials and that, statistically, you only chose Christianity because your parents ‘taught’ it to you?

If you truly want a legitimate debate, here, start off by posting examples of posters who have said the “exact opposite” on one board or the other.

I found the SDMB posters running back to the thread on this board to chuckle over the LBMB a bit childish, but I don’t recall the occasions where someone from here went to the LBMB and lied (unlike your moderators) or actually disrupted the board (unlike your “Carmen Lardent”, there, and your “Archangel” and “Roxy”, here.)

The rules of debate on this board include providing evidence, not simply asserting things and then quoting Scripture out of context. Give it a try.

Well, Giant Squid…

1.) Give me the scripture reference on that particular thing and I’ll explain the context. I will say that there are a lot of things mentioned in the Bibel that are there to show the wrongs of people, including the Pharisees of Jesus’ day taking the Law into their own hands. Jesus came to fullfill that Law for us and cover it with His blood.

2.) Evidence? Theories yes, many, many theories. Evidence… I don’t buy that one.

3.) I wouldn’t say I “chose” Christianity, rather it “chose” me. Yes I was raised in a home where we went to church, but my family wasn’t in the least bit “religious” until I was long out of the house. I lived a very ungodly life for some time and through some things that happened in my life, I could explain them in no other way than God working in me and around me. It was through that that I found a true relationship with Christ.

And 30 other religions that have as equally good credentials…Maybe so in your opinion, but there is only one that has a living God that communicates with His followers through a Holy Spirit and who promises eternal life in paradise with Him.

But if the heat was too hot for those of us from the SDMB, exactly what injury are you claiming? I’m mystified.

Anyway, this is where I hang out online. Glad to have you over here. And, no, I really can’t manage real life and two online communities at the same time. My wife really prefers to see me every now and then.

Giant Squid, first to your quote from Jesus - found in Luke 14:26, btw - ever hear of hyperbole? Jesus is saying that we must love Him so uch more than anyone else that their love for even their parents or themselves would compare to hate.

I haven’t been able to find the other one in the few minutes of searching I tried, so I need to see the full context of what is beings said. But yes, God did at times order the Isrealites to kill their enemies. As I said before, he is a vengeful God to those who will not follow Him. He was vengeful to His own chosen people at times when they strayed too far away.

3.) Why should you believe me? You shouldn’t. You should allow your heart to be opened to Him to come and speak to you so that you will know the truth. As Jesus said to Peter in Matthew 16 when Peter acknowledged Jesus as the Christ and the living Son of God - “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.”

coosa My master is the Lord Jesus Christ and since I’m still living and breathing, I guess he hasn’t issued his “recall notice”. But if you demand I leave, I will. It is much easier for me to not have to come here and defend my faith.

Libertarian, your post confuses me. I guess I don’t see your point or where that scripture fits anything in this discussion. Your quote is from Jesus to the Pharisees who were taking the Law and perverting it. Go read Matthew 23 to see the full context. It has no bearing to this discussion.

But since you want to spew scripture about converts. How’s this one strik you?

About evolution, God needed stuff to build the earth. Now He could waste precious time creating stuff, or maybe He took some stuff from an old planet that He laid waste by an apocalypse and is of no use to him.

Dinousar bones are recycled from past planets. How do you think he pulled it off in 7 days? He cut corners.

Another theory. The pissed off jelous one is testing us. He wants to weed out everyone but the groveling worship machines, and is laying land-mines of deception.

To be totally respectful, fundie christianity is only a large minority of total christians. Most church leaders, including the Pope, do not have a problem with evolution. Most christian scholars are learned enough to see bible teachings in the light of historical perspective. Many of the stories are myths, with deeper truths in them.

Daniel, for example, was likely written during the time of Maccabees, and in code about the time of Maccabees. Not king Nebachednezzer and Babylon. Writing or talking about present history in those days could be deadly. Why do you think Jesus talked so much in parables.

THe Jelous God is SO old testament, He has grown up a bit since then.

So Jesus can use hyperbole but the Holy Spirit can’t? Whatever happened to the unity of the Trinity?

Squid – I think you are fighting a losing battle on one front, though. It is clear them MKM cannot distinguish moral behavior from the precepts of teh Bible. If his God commanded the slaughter of babies, the stoning of children, the destruction of millions of beings for no crime of their own – all of which are well attested to in the OT, then MKM is forced to agree that those acts were “good”. He worships a vengeful, petty, spite-filled, murderous, rapist of a deity. He is welcome to it.
