I haven’t encountered his anti-imperialist stuff, but I appreciate DT’s presence in religious debates. His arguments may be samey, but at least they’re consistent. It’s good to have the extremely certain atheist view represented here. For one thing it makes the rest of us infidels seem quite easy-going.

Yeah, but you were stressing that you wanted an exact quote - which makes it almost impossible to satisfy you - if people were quoting from memory, and were spot on about the sentiment they were describing, but just happened to have phrased it slightly differently, you still have an out, because it’s not an exact quote.

He doesn’t like the military (or America, religion, and probably kittens AFAIK) and, while I don’t agree with him I can support his right to voice it, but he makes the most outrageous ad hominem statements, throws out ridiculous inflammatory comments that make the recently departed ** TLDRIDKJKLOLFTW** look like the voice of reason and yet he is not called on the carpet by TPTB. Is it because he has a loyal following? Does he have a picture of Cecil molesting goats? Is he kept around for entertainment purposes like Jerry Springer or Rush Limbaugh? Maybe he is like the eccentric relative that everyone in the family knows about and we just go :rolleyes: whenever he unleashes some more verbal vomit. I think it’s long past time that he be involuntarily committed.
To look at that another way though - I think he’s (often) too obnoxious to do proper justice to his arguments.
People despise having their faces rubbed in anything, and the mere fact that it’s happening will turn them away, regardless/in spite of the merits of the argument.
I don’t wish to defend the statement, but I think that would be quite a big stretch - it looks like it might be subject to the ‘no wishing death’ rule in some way or other, but not specifically because dopers happen to be in the target group, I’d say.

Iraq is a war situation, even if the calling-down-of-lightning goes beyond the scope of any war I’m familiar with. Not saying you’re wrong, just offering a point of view.
