I have a question for folks who hammer on the “gay is sinful” button:
Why don’t you condemn anything else? These putative “pro-family” Christian groups like the Family Research Group and Focus on the Family harass gay people and anyone who is gay positive, (ignoring the fact that gay people have families). Yet Jesus said nothing about homosexuality.
However, Jesus did address greed, saying that it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to heaven. Yet these groups have stayed mute on the dishonesty of companies that defraud their employees and investors, like Worldcom and Enron. They have said nothing about Bush’s taxcut that gives greater benefits to the rich than it does to the middle class or poor, despite Jesus’s teachings about being just to the poor among us. They have said nothing about the morality of starting a war under false pretenses, despite Jesus’s teachings about honesty and peacemaking.
His4Ever and her pals ignore everything Jesus taught in favor of hammering on one topic he said nothing about. And given the lies His likes to spout about gay folks (and Mormons and Catholics. . . ), she obviously chooses to ignore Biblical injunctions against bearing false witness.
As it turns out, Jesus had a few choice words to say about people like His, who use the Bible as a weapon to exalt themselves and oppress the innocent.

His4ever does it-because she knows we’ll call her on it, and then she can throw a little hissyfit about how “abused” she is here. It’s her standard MO. I mean, d’uh, she knows the atmosphere around here, she knows that constantly beating us over the head with GOD SAYS SO AND YOU ARE GOING TO HELL!!! is only going to get a :rolleyes: at best, but she still does it. Um, is there some special reason anyone should consult Cecil about anything? Who’s he? Is he the all wise, all knowing one of the world or something? No disrespect intended towards Cecil but he doesn’t know it all. I think there are plenty of people who can decide what to believe without any help from him.
Or facts, or reputable references, or current dictionaries…you know, all those nifty things Cecil and others like to use to support their assertions.

I suggest that, if one places any agreement with the formulation that the Word is Love–even if only in part, even if it is also vengeance and judgment and casting-forth and all those other apparently titillating things–that one should take pains not to utter it in vain.
