You’re exactly right. However, I’ve thought about this at great length, and people all up in arms about Janet’s boob are really annoying me. I couldn’t quite place what it was at first that was pissing me off, but I realized what it was after thinking about it for a bit.
All these people, ranting and raving about the inappropriateness of Janet flashing her boob missed the entire fucking point, imo.
THE WHOLE FUCKING SHOW WAS INAPPROPRIATE!!!
I was at work, listening to the half time show start while I got dressed (I work in a bar), and I hear Nelly starting to sing “Hot In Here”. My first thought is " 
This is in the half-time show?" I walk outside the dressing room to watch it on the big-screen.
I see Nelly jumping around, grabbing his crotch, with all these “cheerleaders” gettin’ so hot, they had to take off all their clothes, and rub all over P.Diddy. I see Kelis gyrating around, singing about how her milkshake brings all the boys to the yard…hell, the classiest part of the show was Kid Rock, and even he managed to fuck it up by singing about hookers and his heroes in the methadone clinic, all while draped in a flag-poncho that pissed alot of veterans off.
If you were SO concerned about what your kid was viewing, why in the bloody blazes were your kids still watching that crap 20 minutes later when Janet’s boob fell out? Where’s your outrage for the ENTIRE SHOW? If you’re going to be a puritan about things, at least be consistent.
I understand, it was the context, it wasn’t the place for that. I understand all that perfectly well. As it happens, I agree with you wholeheartedly. But at least have outrage for the entire show being inappropriate for the venue. NONE of that had any place there, none of it.
Hey, I both like and listen to Nelly, P.Diddy, Kelis AND Kid Rock when the mood strikes, so it’s not even a criticism of their music in general. That’s also not a criticism of the entire hip-hop genre. Beyonce got it. She sang an absolutely gorgeous, if a touch overly-dramatic version of the Star Spangled Banner, and had class when she did it.
That being said, what in the hell did ANYONE expect? It was MTV for crissakes, have CBS executives been living under a rock for the last twenty years or so, that they don’t know MTV and their performers are known for pulling ridiculous stunts like this? Did they not know who the performers were, or what the bulk of their work was like? Who in the hell looked at that line-up and thought that would be good “family entertainment”??
You can start the blame at MTV and CBS. I don’t blame the performers HALF as much as I blame the execs. When you hire a bunch of “bitches, ho’s and thugs” to perform for you, don’t be real shocked when they act like gasp bitches, thugs and ho’s. The performers, I at least expect to pull stupid crap on a regular basis.
I’m sorry, but to focus on the sole matter of a barely visible 3 seconds of Janet’s boob, when the entire halftime show was crass, classless, and completely inappropriate for the venue is beyond ridiculous. For fuck’s sake, 3/4 of the people who SAW the damn thing didn’t even really know what is was they’d seen, till it was all over every newspaper, radio broadcast, breaking TV news piece and website, blown up, zoomed in and focused on.
