For Jewish Dopers

According to my beagle-a-day calendar, Yom Kippur starts at sundown today.

May you have a blessed day.

As Jon Stewart (Comedy Central) notes…you guys get off easy compared to us Catholics…one day and you’re down…none of that repeat confession jazz

Thanks Beagledave.

You know, despite being Jewish, I never know what to say to people for Yom Kippur. For example, “Happy fasting” is ridiculous and “Merry YK” certainly doesn’t cut it. “Have a good YK” is also a little odd… what’s so good about it? its the day of repentance! I like your “have a blessed day” very much.

As I previously said in the “Kosher Salt” thread, many people wish each other “an easy fast.” My rebbe (teacher) would always tell me that we shouldn’t wish each other “an easy fast,” but instead wish “a productive fast.” We hope and pray that we merit only good and peace during the coming year.

I’m not Jewish, but you can wish me a Happy Day Off.

I hope all of the Jewish Dopers have a peaceful Yom Kippur.
