For Lezlers and its lap dog, Kambuckta

I had a lot more things to say in the It’s not my party but I’ll cry if I want to anyway thread. But I stopped saying things. Why? Because the Opening Poster asked that it be closed.

Sure, I disagreed with Siemsi on just about everything she brought up. That’s because I thought she was being myopic and holding a double standard — she saw things only from her point of view, and she wanted the boss’s wife to shut up while the employee’s wife yabbered on about how the party should be held.

But she asked that it be closed.

Now, if I — who disagreed with her so thoroughly — was able to respect her wishes, and even attempt to help her achieve them, why did you find it necessary to call me “a prick”?

To me, a prick is someone who continues to post topical material against the wishes of the Opening Poster when she has made a formal request that the thread be close.

Now let me see… That wasn’t I… Who was it?.. Oh, yeah! It was YOU TWO!

Pricks.

I dunno, really. I mean, the thread was still active.

Of course, I do think Lezlers’s last point, once again aguing the “taking away choices” angle, was completely inane. But apart from the content of the post, I suppose that posting after a request for closure might have been a trifle rude, I don’t see that it was prickish.

Is this a parody?

Was respecting Siemsi’s wishes prickish, Andros?

Nope.

But I can see how someone would be put off at being told to go away.

Me, too. That’s why I made sure to explain why I was saying it, by refering the person to the Opening Poster’s request (having already reminded someone else of that same request immediately preceeding.)

Oh, so you are now the arbiter of board rules too Lib? The thread was still open, and thus accepting posts. In fact, it was YOUR name that appeared most often after the OP’er asked for the thread to be closed…or is it OK for you, because you were just acting as the board sherrif shooing everyone away???

My reference to the stick up your bum and your prickishness was not so much in relation to Lezlers’ post, but rather the way I perceived your attitude through the whole thread. And now that you have started another one, it just reconfirms my original belief that you are just itching for an argument…no matter what.

You’d better be careful that you don’t become the parody Libertarian.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Well, all right, then. I will accept that I must have acted inappropriately. I apologize.

You are forgiven.

Is there really a rule (written/unwritten) that says you can’t continue the beef after the OP asks for a thread closure?

If so, I’d have a problem with it in this sort of scenario:

OP “I got tanked at the bar last night -go Falcons! -, started to drive home, got stopped. those stupid ass cops wrote me a ticket, and I’m gonna loose my liscense and loose my job, what wankers!” and, after two or three people suggesting to the OP that they were wrong and so on, the OP says “screw that noise, those cops were wrong, I want this thread closed”.

would you still say ‘no posting on topic until the thread is closed?’

(I understand that’s not necessarily the case in the thread in question, just questioning the ‘rule’. I also agree that reviving crap after the kumbaya has been sung is shitty)

Well, asking for thread closure isn’t always a sacred done deal. Just because the OP asks for a thread to be closed doesn’t meant that it should be done… sometimes the discussion in a thread moves and grows beyond what the OP originally intended.

After all, there’ve been times when someone has requested that their thread be closed and their request has been denied.

Of course, I can understand the desire to leave things be after the OP asks for closure. Sometimes they don’t want to keep a bad thing going. It’s like, in real life, you’re talking with someone and they say, “I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”

Yeah, I was quite unaware that it was board etiquette dictated we had to stop posting in a thread once the person asked for it to be shut down.

Of course, further posts attacking the OP would be inappropriate, but I don’t think that was the case in this scenario.

well, that was my understanding, too, Spoofe, but Lib started this thread in relation to stuff happening in another thread after the OP requested that it be closed, and suggested there that posting on topic after such a request was made was ‘not ok’. and I’d never heard of such a thing. after things have been resolved, and the marshmellows are in the campfire, yes, but not simply 'cause the OP says “I dont wanna play anymore”

Wow, I got really excited when I saw my name in the Pit. Then I thought “wha…uh? Wha’d I do?!”

Lib, don’t you think you’re overreacting a bit? I’ve read lots of threads where the OP’er get’s frustrated, says “just close the thread!” and the thread goes on for some time. Not to mention the fact that it’s a MESSAGE BOARD. You don’t want to read my posts anymore? Don’t read 'em. It’s not like I’m calling you on the telephone every 5 minutes. Sheesh.

The only reason I even posted again is because you asked me a direct question. If I didn’t answer it that would be being rude. But apparently, answering it after the Op’er asked for it to be closed is rude too. Can’t win with you apparently.

Don’t really think I deserved to be pitted over this. Perhaps you should switch to decaf.

And for the record, it should be “her lapdog” not “it’s”.

Eh, lezlers, he’s apologized. You get worked up about stuff, it happens.

Anyway, Lib, I’d just like to take this opportunity to say thanks for being so level-headed. I didn’t really get a chance to a few weeks ago, as I was away from the board when my own personal pit thread wrought its ghost into the aether.

So, y’know, thanks.

carrot,

He pitted me dude. I’m going to respond whether or not I’ve missed the “window” of opprotunity.

There was a certain amount of irony in calling me on it though.

Yeah? Me too. But he’s apologized, and all is right with the world again. I agree that you probably shouldn’t have been pitted for it, but what are you gonna do now? I guess you could try to get one of the mods to delete the thread…

And I’ll also say that the irony is not lost on me.

yeesh. Just read the link. And I must say, I’m sticking to my “switch to decaf” remark…

And I forgot to say earlier, apology accepted Lib.

Decaf? Hell, I’m recommending that he give up sugar entirely.

Soon. I’m about halfway throught the Atkins book.
