For Mangetout: Canada's National Lost Mitten Registry

The National Post, Canada’s somewhat right-of-centre national newspaper has offered to run a photo of lost mittens sent in by readers, with a description of when and where found. Truly MPSIMS material!

Mitten Registry story (Story has link to lost handwear gallery).

Apparently they did this last winter as well, but I just found out about it.

I couldn’t help but immediately think of Britdoper Mangetout, who collects photographs of lost gloves.

I’m not sure if mittens fall within the purview of his curatorial interest–but there are also leather gloves included in the gallery, which has an odd, forlorn appeal to it.

Does no-one knit mittens with “idiot strings” anymore?

Hee, I thought of Mangetout at the post office Saturday when there was a lonely glove by the self-mail kiosk. I never have a camera ready to photograph lost gloves when I find them.

Tell me you weren’t the kid who wore the mittens on the string!

Nah–I spent many of my tender years in Saskatchewan; even little kids there know that losing a glove or mitten at -40 (with a wind chill of -70) is a very bad idea!
