for some reason, the board's cookies thought I was someone else!

Well, it just happened again, so I went to the “user cp”. As I suspected, as soon as I went there, the board recognized me for myself. Oh well, it’s all good if the board ultimately recognizes that I’m Flamsterette_X and not anyone else, right?

P.S. Arnold, I just got your email… thanks.

Oho. I will hazard a guess, then, that you’ve actually been logged in as Flamsterette_X all along, it’s just that the board is sending you someone else’s “welcome back” information. Might I suggest the obvious experiment? If Arnold approves, next time you appear to be someone else, post a short message in this thread, and see whose name it gets posted under. Dollars to donuts it appears under Flamsterette_X. If the post does, in fact, appear under your name, then this bug is somewhat less serious than it would be otherwise, and you could probably just ignore it in the future.

zut, I’ve discussed the issue with Flamsterette_X via e-mail. Thank you for your suggestion though.

That would be the obvious suggestion, but I don’t think I’d try it, just on the off-chance that it wouldn’t appear under my name.

However, I have emailed both Arnold and TubaDiva about the issue, so it should be taken care of that way, hopefully.

This is an occasional bug . . . seems to have something to do with how vB handles session tracking and proxy servers.

We had this problem recently with two people in the same office building. And it’s happened in the past . . . one of the people involved had a “secure” computer and boy was he upset!

If you see this problem, the thing to do is to log off the SDMB, delete the SDMB cookie from your computer, reboot, and return to the board. When you accept the new cookie it should be correct.

Please let us know (in an EMAIL) if you find any instances of this problem happening again.

Sorry you’ve had problems, it’s not a perfect system.
