Alot of Star Wars fans I know keep going on about Bobba Fett(sp?) and how cool a character he is. My question is where did this name come from? I have looked in the credits of the last(/first) three films and can find no mention of this name.
Bobba is one of my favs. He is probably hunting Osama now.

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Jeremy Bulloch…Boba Fett/Lieutenant Sheckil
Boba Fett is a bounty hunter with a handful of lines in The Empire Strikes Back. He is the armored guy who takes the frozen Han Solo back to Jabba the Hutt and then is later (in Return of the Jedi) rocketed into the mouth of the sand monster Jabba intended to feed Luke, Han & Chewbacca to.
The popularity of the character probably stems from several sources, starting with the action figure, which was a mail-order prize you could get by saving proof of purchase coupons from several Star Wars figures. He was hyped as an important figure in The Empire Strikes Back before the film was released and was featured in an animated segment of the infamously godawful Star Wars Holiday Special.
Despite his relatively tiny role in Empire, Fett was a fan favorite. His costume was neat and he was enigmatic. Considerable lore built up around the character and he was featured in several comic books.
George Lucas has expressed bafflement at Boba Fett’s popularity and has credited his inclusion (in a way) in the prequel films to a very enthusiastic fan base.
I don’t think funkynige is asking who Boba fett is. I think he/she is asking basically ‘Where is the first appearance of the name?’ Was Fett’s name mentioned during that Holiday Special? Or was he named in the movie tESB? I don’t know the answer myself. Anyway, correct me if I’m wrong funkynige. . .
I don’t think the character was named in The Empire Strikes Back, he was just an anonymous bounty hunter. In ROTJ, Han calls him by name (when Han is unfrozen but still can’t see, Chewbacca says something to him and Han replies along the lines of “Boba Fett? Where is he?”.)
The name could have been mentioned in the holiday special, I never saw that show.
** funkynige **, this question probably should have been posted in Cafe Society, the forum for all entertainment questions. Some friendly mod might move it if they find it necessary.
They mention his name in the Xmas special for sure, though It’s really hard to sit through that thing to get to the animated part.
I’m not sure of the time line here, but I think that his name first appeared as a part of the promotion mentioned earlier. Star Wars figure packages offered a free Boba Fett figure for sending in four or five proofs of purchase - hyping him as being critical to the next movie. Not really sure if this promotion was started before or after the Xmas special was aired.
The best part of the whole promotion was the time a friend of a guy my cousin knows got one of the rocket firing Fett figures in the mail. Really. I swear.
I seem to recall seeing our friend Boba in “Star Wars”, but only in the scene between Han and Jabba at the Millenium Falcon. This scene wasn’t in the movie until the 1997 re-release, when George Lucas was able to create Jabba using CGI.
That might have been the kid brother of my friend’s second cousin’s friend. He shot the rocket in his mouth and choked on it which is why they discontinued the shooting version.

The Legolas action figure for LoTR being advertised on NZ TV is shown as having a working bow and arrow. (The arrow gets shot at the troll). Kids have obviously got smarter in the last 20 years.

Bobba is my fav Star Wars character too. One thing to consider re. names is that all of the action figures had names even if never credited in the film, and I recall from watching “making of” type specials that the FX people had names for each of the cantina aliens (none of whom got named in the film).
Boba Fett’s name was only mentioned in the credits, not in any dialogue, of “Empire Strikes Back.” He was mentioned by name in “Return of the Jedi.” For the special edition of “Star Wars,” BF was added in a few scenes.
Boba and his clone-daddy Jango Fett are supporting roles in “Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones.”
I remember seeing the mail order action figure well before the movie came out. I believe they did the same thing with Bossch(?) before Return of the Jedi came out, another non-principal.
