Melbourne City Council is considering renaming Corporation Lane, a narrow downtown alley, AC/DC Lane as a tribute to the band.
Melbourne City Council, you have my support! Pity it’s just a lane and not a highway, but still it’s pretty good. Rock on, Melbourne! Will the street sign feature the lightning bolt between the AC and the DC?
Curiosity: The article mentions that there is already a street named for AC/DC in Madrid. Why Madrid? Anybody?
Don’t know why Madrid, but wanted to say: nice thread title!
The subbies have been having a great time with this one. My fave:It’s a laneway to the top for AC/DC
That is brilliant. It’s great to hear a good news story like that.
On a similar note, I vote that Dangar Place in Chippendale Sydney should be called ‘Hello Warren Place’ - you have had to have seen Blue Murder. This is incedibly parochial, I know.
ref Blue Murder.
From a 2000 news report:
It may not be a Highway to Hell - but at least the legendary Australian hard rock band AC/DC now have a small suburban street named after them.
Hundreds of fans roared their approval when the mayor of Madrid’s Leganes district invited greying veteran band members Malcolm and Angus Young - wearing his trademark schoolboy uniform - to unveil a sign for the new AC/DC Street.
“It’s a good thing, it’s an honour for us,” said Angus, dressed in his trademark Bermuda shorts and English school cap. “Rock `n’ roll is the music of the people, of the masses,” he declared.
Mayor Jose Luis Perez said it was the first street in the world to be named after the band. The Leganes district is a stronghold of rock fans.
“It’s a great idea. There should be others. All of the streets should be named for rock groups,” said Javier Redondo, 43, a stereo technician watching the ceremony.
“Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin also deserve their own streets.”
His son, Javier Junior, 18, forcefully added Metallica to the list.
That would be the coolest street sign ever. Make it white letters on a black background and you’ve got a hit sign.
One they’d probably have to replace every few months.
Much like High St. on the UC Santa Cruz campus.
