Congratulations! You won the drawing in your town for the right to name a new road. You can name it after any real person that you want, alive or deceased. You can name it after:
[ul]
[li]Yourself[/li][li]Any relative[/li][li]A friend or someone influential to you[/li][li]That hottie from 9th grade[/li][li]Someone famous[/li][li]Someone notorious[/li][/ul]
Who is your street named after & why?
You can answer without disclosing that person’s name, ie. My father, “Firstname Lastname Rd”
Just a random thought, not like I saw a street sign that inspired this or anything.
–because someone had to say it.
otherwise <my mom’s first name> Avenue. Her first name is absolutely unique in that I have never seen it used by anyone ever except for my niece’s and daughter’s middle name. It never shows up as a valid search result. It is not just a unique spelling either. I have no friggin idea where my grandmother came up with it.
I’d like to name my road the Frederick Law Olmsted Parkway. It goes without saying it will bend and curve its way along natural features, through scenic forests, and cross a stone bridge or two.
Victor and Hugo. This combination actually exists in California City, but I like it enough to recreate it.
Or:
Olive and Grand. This combination exists in L.A. Some dark night the power will go out. Popeye would feel his way up and down Olive, and think it was Grand.
Hyapatia Lee/Victoria Lynch because we need something named for a Native American who has been an exotic dancer, pornographic actress, and recording artist.
I would go with my own mother’s surname. When she divorced my dad, he remarried another woman with her first name and remained in the house we had lived in, so my mom decided she needed a different surname. She chose her mother’s maiden name, but with a European spelling which is absolutely unique in the US, and possibly the world, because she kind of spelled it fancifully incorrectly.
I’d name streets after all the current Democratic presidential candidates. Leave people scratching their heads, wondering who in hell these people are.
But I’d put my My Way in Lake Jackson, TX, where it would intersect both This Way and That Way. I sing an off-key version(my way) of the song “My Way” every time I drive through.
Heh. My County GIS department is in charge of approving new road names, so I see quite a few. Most of them have no imagination at all. “No, you can’t use Lakeview, we already have three roads named that”.
Anyway, in the county that I live (I work in a different county) they wanted to rename the roads in my little corner. There where many duplicates and they wanted to get rid of them. The county suggested a bird name them for the area (always a good idea to have a theme).
For my road, that I’m the only full time resident on, I suggested -
Chicken Crossing Rd
Loon Lane
It never came to pass, and I’m still on Jackson Rd.
There’s a road around here known as Hobo Road, and it’s the official name of the road, not a town colloquialism. I find it hilarious, since this town area is chock-o-block with hobos during the warmer months.
