Silliest Street Names

I don’t recall this being done any time recently. What are the funniest or most eyebrow-raising street names in your town.

When I was growing up, my parents moved from elegant Forest Ave. to—Humpfer St. How embarassing.

Where I live now, though, my favorite is:

           Bob St.

There just has to be a story behind that.

There is a “Shades of Death Road” in Warren County, NJ USA.

Mabye I’m immature, but I always get the giggles when I pass Colon St. (I live in San Francisco; it’s in the inner-sunset-twin peaks area, around Sloat and 19th ave. -what the hell is the name of that neighborhood anyway?) I mean, what else can colon mean? Was it some poor soul’s last name? Must have gone through hell in jr, high. Mabye his name was Harry. hehe.

There’s a road near Taft, California, called “Brown Material Road.”

I live in a whole neighborhood of weird names:

Tulip Tree (I live here, call it Toilet Pee)
Horse Chestnut
Woodman’s Ct.
Water Maple
Rain Tree
and the oddest…BEEFWOOD! Yuck.

In my hometown, you can go to the corner of Graham and Cracker, which I’ve always thought was kind of amusing as opposed to stupid. They must have done it on purpose, right?

In rural Southern Maryland, they used to have long, street-length driveways. To make it easier for emergency response vehicles, the residents were asked to name their driveways as streets. So there are lots of streets like “Bob and Jenny’s Place”. Some of them got more creative, like “No Place”. There was also a “Morningwood Drive.”

Some years ago there were coming up with street names for emergency response vehicles in southwest VA, too. There was one road that had a couple of doctors living on it, it was named Pair o’ Docs Road.

New Orleans - Fagot Ave. A friend of mine actually ripped down the street sign for this and gave it to me even though I’m not, technically, gay. If any of you SDMB flamers want it, it’s yours for the price of shipping.

Lafayette, LA (and New Orleans has one too, IIRC) - Live Oak Drive - as opposed to what? Dead Oak Drive?

My hometown in PA has a street called Stoner Drive. I always wanted that sign but never had the balls to take it.

Lafayette - Easy Street

In Michigan, off of I-75, exit #69 is for Big Beaver Road.

In New Jersey there is a Redneck Street
that runs from Moonachie to Litte Ferry.

I know a little fairy who is a redneck.
He should move there.

[/]slight hijack[/] I’ve always been slightly amused at the street names in the high-end subdivisions of certain cities – as if having your house on a fancy-sounding street made it that much fancier.

Oakmont Terrace
Oakmont Cove
Hunter’s Glen
Westmont Terrace
Cove Terrace
Westmont Cove

…you get the idea. This is especially funny considering that some of the most high-end real estate in this country is on streets with rather humdrum names: Park Avenue, North Michigan Avenue, Rodeo Drive…

[/]another hijack[/] …then there’s Macomb, IL, the city that names its alleys (well, a couple of them downtown, anyway). There’s Hainline Way, a couple others…

There is a street in my town called Dickey Drive. Can’t help but laugh every time I see it.

Whims of the developer. There’s a subdivision near my house with all girl’s names for street names (“Rebecca”, etc), and another with Triple Crown winners (the only one I remember right now is “Secretariat”)

There’s a “Bong Road” in Belton on the base. There’s no signs to mark the road, because they’re always stolen.

–Tim

There’s a Loblolly Lane in Mauldin, South Carolina–always makes me giggle.

Just north of Stevens Point WI is a small one-lane road with the street sign ‘Orderinda Ct.’
I understand a retired judge lives on that road and the county let him choose the name.
Definitely my favorite.

My two favorites growing up were:

Strutt Street and Sneaky Snake Hollow.

Being in east Tennessee as I grew up, that latter always got pronounced Sneaky Snake Holler.

My sister’s old place of business was on Lickinghole Rd. They used a P.O. box on their business cards and checks. Wonder why…

Their’s a High Street sign downtown that’s been stolen numerous times. By my house their is a street named South Park and i can’t believe it hasn’t been stolen yet. It’s quite remarkable.
